About the Role
We are seeking an AI Engineer to join our engineering team and support multiple simultaneous initiatives, including our AI-powered workflows, agent-driven interactions, and trust & safety features. You will design, build, and maintain robust and scalable AI systems, while collaborating closely with backend engineers, researchers, product managers, and designers to deliver exceptional user experiences.
Responsibilities
- Develop, optimize, and maintain AI agent workflows, ensuring high-quality interactions, scalability, and adherence to user safety standards.
- Implement and refine prompt engineering strategies, optimizing the conversational performance and accuracy of our generative AI models.
- Integrate AI workflows with backend services and infrastructure, ensuring seamless deployment, performance, and observability.
- Support backend engineering tasks, primarily in Golang, to develop API endpoints for our iOS team as they interact with our AI Agents.
- Participate in designing and implementing scalable cloud solutions on AWS and GCP using Terraform and Kubernetes.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues in AI systems, promoting robust monitoring and continuous improvement.
What We're Looking For
- Startup mindset: Comfortable with ambiguity, iterative development, and wearing multiple hats when needed.
- Experience with Voice AI Agents using WebRTC/Websockets with tools like LiveKit, Pipecat, or Daily.
- 3+ years of professional experience in AI-focused engineering roles, including prompt engineering and backend system integration.
- Strong experience with OpenAI's API and generative AI systems, particularly optimizing performance for conversational agents.
- Experience with LangFuse or similar LLM observability platform
- Experience with creating quality data sets and fine-tuning LLMs using tools like TensorZero, Argilla, etc.
- Proficiency in backend development with Golang and Python.
- Solid knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
- Experience with PostgreSQL databases and designing performant, scalable database schemas.
$177,500 - $213,000 a year
Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary range is reflective of a position based in New York City. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
