About the Role:

Hinge is looking for a passionate Vice President of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to provide strategic and operational leadership to Hinge’s AI initiatives as we are embarking on a mission to become an AI-First company. Reporting to our Chief Technology Officer, you will lead a dedicated team of Data Scientists and Machine Learning Engineers to develop a self-service AI platform, and cutting-edge AI models and tools.

In this role, you will work closely with the Engineering, Data, Product and other teams to lay the foundation of AI at Hinge to power user safety, bad actors/algorithms, recommendation engine, AI-generated interactions, etc. We are looking for someone with extensive experience in building AI teams and platforms, and a passion for solving some of the most complex and important problems related to dating.

Responsibilities:

    • Team Leadership and Development: Build, manage, and mentor a world-class team of Data Scientists and Machine Learning Engineers, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
    • Self-Service AI Platform: Oversee the development and maintenance of a self-service AI platform that enables the rapid creation, testing, and deployment of machine learning models. The platform should be self-serving, scalable and developed with bias mitigation in mind.
    • AI Model Development: Lead the development and deployment of advanced AI models to enhance user experience, safety, and outcomes across the entire product funnel. This includes ideation, model development, validation, and implementation.
    • AI Ethics: Champion ethical AI practices within the organization, ensuring models are designed, implemented, and used in a fair, transparent, and accountable manner. Lead discussions and actions around data privacy, algorithmic bias, transparency, and other AI ethics-related topics.
    • Operational Efficiency: Implement AI tools to optimize operational efficiency across the organization, working closely with cross-functional teams to understand their needs and develop AI solutions that drive improvement. Foster a data-driven culture within the organization, promoting the use of AI in decision-making processes.
    • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the tech leadership and the executive team to define the company’s AI strategy and goals, ensuring alignment with the broader business objectives.
    • Innovation: Keep abreast of the latest AI trends, AI Platforms, applications, and best practices, and advise on potential adoption to drive competitive advantage
    • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

What We’re Looking For:

    • Master's degree in Computer Science, AI, Data Science, or a related field. A PhD would be considered a plus.
    • Proven experience in a similar leadership role, preferably in a product-led tech company.
    • Strong track record of building, managing, and developing high-performing teams.
    • Demonstrated experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining AI models and platforms.
    • Expert in modern AI technologies (including generative AI), machine learning models, data analytics, and the underlying infrastructure & engineering to reliably deploy these models at scale.
    • Expert in MLOps and building reliable/high availability AI/ML systems.
    • Ability to communicate complex data insights in a clear and actionable way to non-technical stakeholders.
    • Highly motivated, proactive and collaborative team player with the ability to persuade others and influence outcomes.
$332,000 - $398,000 a year
Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary range is reflective of a position based in New York City. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
