About the Role:

Matterport is looking for an experienced attorney with general corporate skills as well as commercial and licensing experience to join our small but mighty legal team as Sr. Commercial Counsel reporting to the Legal Director.  In this role, you will partner closely with Sales, Business Development, Customer Support, Product, Finance, and Accounting and provide comprehensive legal counsel to Matterport’s various business operations and initiatives. We are looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, quickly evolving and growing environment and enjoys working on a variety of items each day.

What you will do:

    • Serve as a key legal advisor on a variety of commercial transactions, including strategic partner relationships, customer contracts, and vendor agreements
    • Provide day to day legal counsel to various departments and comprehensive management and resolution of legal inquiries from business team members.
    • Build close cross-functional relationships with team members in supported business operations and obtain and maintain a solid knowledge of the products, services and objectives of those operations.
    • Draft and negotiate a variety of domestic and international commercial agreements, including SaaS, licensing, manufacturing, supply, consulting, marketing and other sales and operational agreements.
    • Provide counsel and practical review of customer-facing materials and technology to confirm compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
    • Assist and support the legal department's efforts in the creation, implementation and refinement of forms, policies and procedures and prepare and deliver trainings to business groups from time to time.

Who you are:

    • JD with excellent academic credentials
    • At least 8 -10 years of relevant experience at a law firm and/or with a corporation, or some combination thereof
    • Strong and deep experience in commercial contracts and licensing and one or more of the following areas: i) e-Commerce, ii) SaaS support iii) manufacturing and supply
    • Admitted and in good standing with a US State Bar (CA or NY preferred)
    • Demonstrate a naturally business-friendly and compassionate approach to legal problem-solving and be able to effectively counsel internal clients by providing clear, concise and practical advice as well as creative solutions.
    • Be efficiently analytical and have exceptional business and legal issue identification and problem-solving skills.
    • Possess a strong desire to learn the business and new areas of law and to function integrally as part of a cross-departmental team.
    • Comfort working with lean teams and wearing multiple hats in a smaller company environment.
    • Be confident, professional and quickly able to gain respect and trust of business team members.
    • Have a positive and upbeat attitude, sense of humor and work collaboratively with other members of the larger finance team, sales and all other functions.
    • Be extremely organized, detail-oriented and efficient with very strong follow through on accountability.
    • Thrive in new and potentially uncomfortable situations and be able to simultaneously manage multiple client demands and shifting priorities within a very fast-paced, and rapidly evolving environment.A self-starter who is quick to pick up new concepts, and willing to be able to dig in and become an expert as needs arise.
    • Agility in working in an unpredictable environment given the pandemic, including sufficient ability to work from home, on zoom and with little direct supervision.

      The US base salary range for this full-time position is $146,500 - $284,000 & Bonus & Benefits & Equity. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience and relevant education or training. $146,500 - $284,000 a year
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $146,500 - $284,000 & Bonus & Benefits & Equity. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location.
