Mt. Baker Planned Parenthood (MBPP) is a non-profit family planning agency and a leader in sexual and reproductive healthcare, advocacy, and education in the state of Washington. We provide high-quality, affordable sexual and reproductive health care for people in 3 health centers in Northwest Washington.

The Planned Parenthood Generation Action Coordinator organizers and directs Planned Parenthood Generation Action activities on local campuses and acts as a liaison between Mt. Baker Planned Parenthood (MBPP), Planned Parenthood Generation Action volunteers, other campus groups and university staff. This is a part-time and temporary position with 12-15 hours a week time commitment for the 2024- 2025 academic year.

Essential Functions

    • Working with MBPP Manager of Public Affairs to develop a Planned Parenthood Generation Action recruitment, retention, and events plan for the 2024-2025 academic year.
    • Ensuring that Planned Parenthood Generation Action is recognized and represented as an official student group on local campuses.
    • Planning and implementing regular meetings and events for Planned Parenthood Generation Action members including volunteer, advocacy and outreach opportunities in support of MBPP and PPFA.
    • Working with MBPP staff on all Planned Parenthood Generation Action related recruitment and outreach efforts including event planning, media outreach, and the use of web-based social networking.
    • Planning for and representing Planned Parenthood Generation Action at information fairs and community events at Western Washington University and other local community colleges.
    • Weekly and monthly reporting to the Manager of Public Affairs.
    • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge on information and current affairs concerning family planning, reproductive and sexual health, and local, state and federal issues that involve or affect Planned Parenthood.
    • Reading and responding to agency email promptly.
    • Assisting to recruit and train the successive Planned Parenthood Generation Action Coordinator for the following academic year.
    • Adherence to local university policies and procedures.
    • Responsible for communicating positively and holds self and team members accountable; does not participate in destructive gossip and works to increase team spirit.

Qualifications

    • Enrolled as a student at a Western Washington University upon hire and through the duration of the 2024-2025 academic year.
    • Knowledge of and commitment to reproductive health and the Planned Parenthood mission
    • Successful completion of a Washington State Patrol background check.
    • Current Washington State Driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of auto insurance is required.
    • Flexible schedule required including nights and weekends as needed.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

    • Ability to be an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and energetic role model for all Planned Parenthood Generation Action members.
    • Ability to work pro-actively with minimal supervision
    • Advanced ability to read, write, understand and communicate clearly in English. 
    • Technological skills to include word processing and database programs, email and internet.
    • Knowledge of family planning and reproductive health topics
    • Ability to prioritize work appropriately and make decisions in an independent manner.
    • Ability to communicate and work effectively with MBPP staff and volunteers.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

    • Requires sitting, standing, talking and walking for long periods of time. 
    • Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate a keyboard and other office equipment.  
    • Occasional lifting to 50 pounds.
