No medical experience is necessary for this role as we're able to provide complete in-house training. Basic Responsibilities
The MA-R is responsible for providing technical and clinical support to medical providers, providing patient education, performing routine and specialized lab tests in accordance with RCW 18.360.050.

Essential Functions
Provides high quality patient care in accordance with infection and exposure control procedures, Planned Parenthood standards and guidelines, all applicable regulatory guidelines, MBPP policies and procedures.

Provides non-discriminatory service to all patients regardless of race, color, creed, sex, marital status, sexual orientation, age, national origin, disability, or HIV status.

Informs patients in a non-directive manner of all options available to them in the event of an unintended pregnancy and makes a referral for service based on the patient need.

Describes the difference between medication and surgical abortion services.

Educates patients on all FDA approved birth control methods including Emergency Contraception. Provides specific instruction on the client’s selected birth control method.

Prepares patients for exam for any procedures performed by clinician; includes performance of appropriate tests and measures, completion of forms, chart documentation, and appropriate patient education.

Conducts routine lab tests, under direction of clinician.

Assists clinician during surgical procedures including abortion, vasectomy, colposcopy, and LEEP, Implanon, and IUD inserts. Maintains a sterile field.

Assists with provision of medication abortions.

Follows all state laws governing abortion services.

Performs macroscopic exam of tissue post-surgery.

Provides patient education, pregnancy options counseling, HIV pre- and post-test counseling, surgical and medication abortion counseling, and sterilization counseling.

Ensures safe opening and closing of clinic as assigned.

Adhere to affiliate goals and policies on professionalism, wait time in-clinic, and the system for addressing client complaints.

Participates in the orientation and training of clinical support staff as assigned.

Ensures appropriate logs and forms are completed at all times and prepare reports as assigned.

Sterilizes instruments, disinfects equipment, and performs routine equipment tests in accordance with MBPP policies and procedures.
Stocks and cleans exam rooms.

Assists with Quality Assurance, Risk Management, safety and security as assigned.

Compiles supply orders and submits to appropriate staff to ensure all needed supplies are on-site at all times.

Ensures smooth flow of clinic operations, including troubleshooting of backlogs and proposal of ideas to improve clinic operations.

Reads agency email daily and responds appropriately.

Keeps management informed of needs and concerns.  

Qualifications
Current Washington State Medical Assistant- Registered certification (This requires an endorsement by a MBPP healthcare practitioner).

GED or High School diploma required per CLIA.

Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and at any of MBPP’s facilities as assigned.

Valid Washington state driver's license, reliable transportation, automobile insurance, and good driving record required for travel between clinics.

Successful completion of background check.

Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Knowledge of infection control, universal precautions, safety, and patient confidentiality.

1-2 years applicable work experience in a clerical or medical office setting preferred.

Knowledge of family planning and reproductive health topics.

Skill at basic tests and measures to include patient vital signs, venipuncture and finger stick blood draw, pregnancy tests, spun and dipstick urinalysis, and others needed.

Skill in triaging patient calls for acuity.

Skill in providing patient education in caring, unbiased manner.

Skill in set and maintenance of sterile field.

Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize work appropriately.

Ability to work effectively as part of a team and work effectively in a fast paced, stressful, and dynamic environment. 

Ability to respond quickly in an emergency.

Ability to communicate knowledge of profession in caring, substantive manner.

Skill in surgical assisting preferred.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands
Requires hand-eye coordination; finger dexterity, corrected visual acuity and a combination of sitting, standing, climbing, stooping, balancing, kneeling, crouching, crawling; carrying, pushing, pulling lifting moderately heavy objects and materials of 20-30 pounds; may occasionally be required to exert heavy physical effort involving heavier objects and materials up to 50 pounds with assistance.

Exposure to routine office conditions as well as adverse environmental conditions such as dust, temperature and noise extremes, running, odors, wetness, and vibrations. May be exposed to blood borne pathogens (BBP) and/or other infectious materials (OPIM) in the health center environment.

Variable hours to include some evenings and weekends
