In the Mechanism model, we work with vetted entrepreneurs to identify and validate startup business ideas before venture investment. We then provide the growth expertise to gain early traction and the business support to establish positive unit economics, profitability, and scale.

The Mechanism team has a track record of investing in and cofounding multiple $100M+
revenue companies.

Position Description
Mechanism’s VP of Growth is responsible for working closely with our invested startups to drive rapid profitability and scale. The role leads our Growth Practice Area, which includes experts across paid media, SEO, social, affiliate, retention, and referral marketing.

The VP of Growth role is a vital part of our executive team and will help shape the future of Mechanism and our invested startups. Mechanism’s growth expertise is paramount to our portfolio companies’ success. We collaborate with leadership teams across vastly different industries to rapidly test concepts, nail unit economics, and make market size the only growth constraint.

This role reports to Mechanism’s CEO. 

What to Expect
The rate of learning at early-stage companies is so high that priorities continuously evolve. Thus, being highly adaptable and flexible is critical. However, we’d like to share a general idea of the direct impact you could make within the first three months on the team:

30 Days
Develop a strong rapport with the existing growth team, Mechanism leadership team, and portfolio company leadership teams.
Develop a strong understanding of current growth capabilities and initiatives across all of Mechanism.

60 Days
Work closely with Mechanism leadership, EIRs (entrepreneurs in residence), and CEOs to plan and test business concepts before and after companies launch.
Work closely with your team to maximize their success with portfolio companies.
Work closely with the Mechanism team to collaborate across product, operations, and finance.

90 Days
Scale Mechanism’s growth capabilities by building out your team and by building out new growth capabilities. 
Work closely with Mechanism leadership, EIRs (entrepreneurs in residence), and CEOs to plan and test business concepts before and after companies launch.
Work closely with your team to maximize their success with portfolio companies.
Work closely with the Mechanism team to collaborate across product, operations, and finance.

What You’ll Do

    • Work closely with Mechanism and portfolio company leadership to lead growth strategy and execution across all growth marketing channels.
    • Lead and scale our Growth Practice Area to meet the needs of our invested startups.
    • Design operational and testing frameworks to identify and optimize growth campaigns that improve efficiency and scale.
    • Optimize cross-channel acquisition efforts to drive demand and maximize ROI.
    • Execute tests and experiments while collaborating with the Product, Engineering, Design, and Content teams.
    • Manage growth analytics and insight tools to drive performance across all funnels.
    • Help invested startups build their in-house growth teams.
    • Identify, test, and scale new customer acquisition channels at pre-revenue and established portfolio companies.

Skill Requirements

    • 10+ years of hands-on experience across growth marketing.
    • 5+ years of experience leading growth marketing teams across different stage companies.
    • Deep expertise across paid media, social, SEO, affiliate, growth product, referral, and retention marketing.
    • Deep analytical and strategic expertise across growth modeling, funnel optimization, AB/multivariate testing, growth product, and viral marketing.
    • Excellent communication and leadership skills with an innate ability to empower your team to do its best work.
    • You understand the intricacies of operating a practice area, either having managed teams at an agency previously or an internal practice area within another company.
    • You thrive in a high-velocity, outcome-oriented environment where growth is in our company-wide DNA.
    • You can make complicated things simple and foster an environment of rapid execution, learning, and fun.
    • You are entrepreneurial and relentlessly resourceful.
    • You can rapidly context switch as you work across vastly different industries and growth challenges.

Time Commitment
This role is full-time and will need to overlap with US EST for the majority of the workday.

We don’t have any offices and are fully remote. You can work wherever you’re most productive.
