THE ROLE
As the Dean of Student Supports for Meeting Street Schools – Jasper & Beaufort, you will play a pivotal role in creating an inclusive learning experience for our students who receive special education services, multilingual support services, and/or broader student support services (“Section 504”). Reporting directly to the Principal, you will lead the development of a model for integrated student services that ensures every student receives the appropriate level of support to be successful.

RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Set the vision for success (and related systems) for the special population programming (Special Education, ML, Gifted, and Section 504) and ensure alignment with school-wide goals.
    • Research, design and implement research-backed math, reading, and writing instructional programs, curriculum, and strategies for students receiving special education services, in need of targeted academic intervention, and/or who are multilingual learners.
    • Support quality classroom instruction and its improvement in all settings through monitoring, observing, model teaching, and coaching.
    • Ensure all students with IEPs are receiving effective instruction in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).
    • Monitor teacher data collection for IEP goals, objectives and transition plans.
    • Lead schoolwide professional learning related to special population programming (Special Education, ML, Gifted, and Section 504).
    • Review, monitor, and meet timelines for IEP’s and 504’s - referrals, initial eligibility, and re-evaluations.
    • Manage the relationships with South Carolina Public Charter School District to ensure compliance with all local, state and federal requirements.
    • Oversee rostering, scheduling, and state database systems for ML, IEP and 504 compliance.
    • Communicate with and maintain relationships with external stakeholders (i.e. LEA, related service providers, behavior specialists, school psychologists.
    • Resolve difficult and sensitive inquiries and complaints regarding student support services.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in special education, education administration, or a related field preferred 
    • Active South Carolina special education certification (or ability to transfer current certification to South Carolina) 
    • At least three years of teaching and leadership experience in special education, academic intervention, and/or Multilingual Leader 
    • Thorough knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices. 
COMPENSATION
