The Role
The elementary school counselor is an important member of the school's Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) team.  In this role, you will be serving students as they grow and develop their social and emotional skills. Meeting street schools follows an ASCA model that emphasizes a counselor’s responsibility to directly impact student social and emotional learning through delivery and supervision of whole school SEL supports as well as group and individual counseling. As a full member of the Meeting Street faculty, you will also help grow the brain of your adult colleagues as well.   School Counselors report to the campus Director of Student Support.

Responsibilities

    • Schedule and facilitate individual and group counseling sessions
    • Implement tier 1 social emotional curriculum for all students; this could include teaching whole-class lessons and/or development of lesson plans for teachers to implement
    • Participate in grade level MTSS meetings and be a proactive problem solver with your colleagues
    • Analyze student data to create action plans on the school, grade, classroom, and individual level
    • Identify needs of students and families and coordinate connection to resources including food pantry donations, clothing banks, community events, etc.
    • 504 case management, including development of support plans, scheduling of meetings, and data collection
    • Serve on the crisis response team, including need for verbal and physical de-escalation if necessary
    • Attend attendance team meetings and conduct home visits as required
    • Complete normed assessment procedures in order to create treatment plans
    • Analyze data to determine effectiveness of therapy and adjust treatment plan as needed
    • Champion whole-school Social-Emotional Learning initiatives
    • Provide professional development to teachers and leaders in areas of expertise
    • Coordinate care for students across a continuum of supports, including those who are seeing external mental health partners
    • Collaborate with other Mental Health Professionals during monthly professional development sessions
    • Advocate for the needs of students and families
    • Participate in group and individual professional development to improve your practice and knowledge-base
    • Engage families in their child’s educational and counseling experience
    • Arrange for opportunities for parents and caregivers to engage with school personnel including leaders, teachers, and support staff
    • Other duties as assigned

Educational Background and Work Experience

    • Licensed Master's of School Counseling A minimum of two years of licensed experience in student services, social services or related position
    • Experience in a fast-paced, data driven educational setting preferred
