Position Overview:
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) oversees the fiscal functions and management of Meeting Street Schools’ $40M budget. Overall, the CFO is responsible for the financial records of the organization, the annual audit conducted in accordance with nonprofit generally accepted accounting principles and Government Auditing Standards, the preparation of the Form 990 report to the Internal Revenue Service, and other reporting as required.

The CFO will also be responsible for partnering with senior management to establish standards and best practices that support the organization’s strategic growth plan, as well as managing the overall financial reporting of the agency. This includes developing budgets and timely, accurate monthly financial statements, analyzing budget variances and developing recommendations for improvements.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

    • Oversees Director of Accounting and Accounts Payable function, budget preparation, and audit functions
    • Works with other department and campus operations leads to monitor each department/campus and make recommendations when necessary

Key Responsibilities :

    • Directs the preparation of all financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, Board reports, tax returns, and governmental agency reports
    • Present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to executives and board of directors
    • Regularly review financial policies, procedures, and best practices and implement an effective strategy for compliance and/or making adjustments as needed.
    • Review monthly financial statements budget to actuals and suggest adjustments as necessary
    • Review effectiveness of annual budget process and make improvements as necessary
    • Analyzes operations to identify areas in need of reorganization
    • Works with the CEO and other executives to coordinate planning and establish priorities for the planning process
    • Studies long-range trends and projects potential impacts on future growth
    • Serve as a financial liaison with partnering school districts to ensure operating compliance and proper funding
    • Coordinate annual audit activities and 990 tax filings and ensure all are completed in a timely manner
    • Represent the organization to potential partners and public officials
    • Ad-hoc reporting and analysis as requested by senior management

Required Skills/Abilities:

    • Bachelor’s Degree with 5 years of related experience or a combination of education and related experience equivalent to at least 7 years total
    • Background in accounting/finance, non-profit setting preferred
    • Thorough knowledge and understanding of GAAP
    • Experience with GAAS/GASB government audit preferred
    • Certified Public Accountant preferred
    • Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and general ledger
    • Fund accounting experience preferred
    • Refined organizational skills, ability to multi-task and extreme attention to detail
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications including Word and Excel
    • Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge and Workday preferred
    • Must maintain a cooperative, approachable team-oriented attitude
    • Flexible schedule determinant upon business demand
    • Confidentiality relative to all aspects of our business

Physical Requirements:

    • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
    • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
    • Must be able to access various departments of a given location.
    • Some travel required.
The salary for this position starts at $150,000 and is commensurate with experience.
