The role
Squint is looking for an Android Engineer to join our team and help design and develop Squint’s Augmented Reality (AR) platform. You will be responsible for contributing to the design and development of Squint’s Android product. You will be responsible for not only making decisions on the technology stack, but also influencing the product roadmap and product design. As a key early employee at Squint, you will be collaborating directly with leaders, including the CEO, to create and grow an engineering culture that is innovative, intentional, and truly world-class.

About the company
Squint is a software company backed by the leading venture capital firms Sequoia Capital and Menlo Ventures (early investors in Apple, Google, Airbnb, Uber, and more). Squint’s mission is to make AR the primary mechanism for information discovery and consumption. Squint’s first product to market is a platform for manufacturers that optimizes procedures and empowers the workforce on a mobile device.

Responsibilities

    • Strong Technical Presence: Contribute across all technical aspects of development at Squint, focusing on the Android platform. Provide expert knowledge of Android and Kotlin. Provide quality code reviews, create scalable architecture, and ensure all phases of the development life cycle are met (e.g. requirements, design, build, experiment, test, debug, deploy, monitor). Our mobile app is built on Flutter, so familiarity with Flutter and Dart will also be helpful.
    • Product-Minded Attitude: Always apply knowledge of customer use cases and map product roadmap and priorities to work being done actively — raising issues proactively and preventing poor decisions early in the design process. Take the customer’s perspective when making technical decisions that will influence the scalability of the Squint platform in the future.
    • Collaboration: Collaborate with product management, design, and customers as stakeholders for projects. Be receptive to feedback from customers, prioritizing their needs and adjusting the technical implementation to ensure Squint delivers the best user experience possible.
    • Culture: Partner with the CEO and other leaders to create a world-class engineering culture, including all of the stages involved in bringing a product from concept or idea through market release and beyond.
    • Communication: Communicate all relevant information with the team and customers. Align with all stakeholders for key decisions.

Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related fields.
    • At least 1 year of experience working as an Android Engineer.
    • Experience creating highly usable and accessible applications that comply with industry standard HCI guidelines.
    • Experience working with Android is a must.
    • Optionally, experience with Flutter, Dart, and ARCore will be helpful.
    • Track record of creating fundamentally strong software via code reviews, scalable architecture, and well-documented requirements and design.
