About You:
Are you a certification engineer looking for something that you just can’t find in big aerospace? Do you love all facets of aircraft certification? Are you happiest when you are jumping between process development and engineering solutions for regulatory compliance? Would you like to manage a certification team that’s working on new and novel projects? If so, you might be a good fit for the team in  the Certification Manager role here at Merlin.

The Role:

    • The Certification Engineer is responsible for all aspects of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification process, and oversees various projects of significant magnitude in terms of complexity, cost, time-constraints, internal and external staffing, and equipment, including software, hardware and specific certification efforts.
    • Coordinate and manage certification activities for multiple Merlin products and Supplemental Type Certificates (STC's) on aircraft.
    • Allocate the appropriate resources (internal and external) to meet the timely completion of STC's.
    • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and provide guidance on certification to team members throughout the project.
    • Support Merlin’s development assurance process and support process assurance audits.
    • Work with your peers to develop and evolve processes for safety critical avionics hardware and software.
    • Effectively and regularly communicates with direct management, the assigned and extended team (both internal or external), the FAA (and/or their delegates), as appropriate.

Requirements:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Technical field preferred, or equivalent Avionics / Certification experience
    • 5 years Avionics involving certifications required, Aircraft A&P, FAA DER or DAR, a significant advantage
    • Engineering and/or product development as an engineer, or significant field experience is required
    • Previous experience working with DO-178B/C, DO-254, ARP 4754A

Preferred Skills, Experience, and Talents:

    • Previous experience managing the certification aspects of DAL A software, airborne electronic hardware (including CEH devices), flight controls, and/or flight control mechanisms.
    • Experience developing Certification and substantiation data for an STC/TC project.
    • Practical experience in any of the engineering domains preferred.
    • Experience working with flight controls a plus.
    • Ability to read and interpret schematics and/or electrical and mechanical drawings and sketches.
    • Strong interpersonal and written skills.
    • Ability to work in a self-directed manner in a fast-paced environment.
