We’re seeking an experienced HR Business Partner who’s eager to use and grow their people skills in a fast-paced startup environment. In this role, the successful individual will provide a high standard of support for our team, while serving as a key advisor to our function heads and leadership team.

As the Merlin, Director, HR Business Partner, you will be responsible for four key areas:

    • Building strong relationships with the functional heads of the company as well as all team members
    • Creating an environment of support and listening
    • Partnering with leadership on key people initiatives including talent management and career development
    • Represent the Merlin culture throughout the entire organization and help others to do the same 


    • Partner with the leadership team and functional managers to resolve employee relations issues; provide coaching and counseling to management and staff.
    • In partnership with VP, Talent and business leaders; co-facilitate strategic and tactical plans for restructures, workforce planning, and succession planning.
    • Create and execute strategies that engage, retain, and develop our team members.
    • Partners with VP, Talent and VP, Business Operations and the business functions to identify current and future talent needs and participates in interviews for key positions.
    • Cultivate and manage activities that help embed the company values across all talent practices.
    • Comfortable presenting to the organization on HR initiatives.
    • Confident in conducting sensitive meetings between managers and employees confidentially.
    • Act as a coach, partner, and confidant to team members at all levels.
    • Partner with the HR team on the development and execution of talent development programs including, but not limited to the creation and implementation of job ladders and learning & development initiatives.
    • Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal/compliance requirements related to employees' day-to-day management, reduce legal risks, and ensure regulatory and policy compliance.
    • Collaborate with HR and Leadership teams to further develop our company culture, implement rewards & recognition initiatives, and internal team building activities as well as employee and community events.
    • Maintain working knowledge of trends and best practices in employee retention, morale, recognition, productivity, and incentive programs

    •  Bachelor’s Degree
    • Minimum of 10 years’ experience working in HR, with at least five (5) years HRBP experience
    • Comfort in interacting with engineers and technical experts. Aviation or emerging tech industry experience preferred, but not required
    • Excellent collaborator in partnering with HR team on talent and culture development
    • Proven ability to take initiative, get things done, and prioritize
    • Ability to take a step back and do a root cause analysis of presenting symptoms, and then to use supportive data to deliver pragmatic solutions are critical for success in this role
    • Have confidence in openly negotiating and influencing others, demonstrating courage and the ability to effectively push back with leaders with data driven and logical rationale. Can identify the “win-win” that can achieve all party’s needs
    • Demonstrate credibility, integrity, and trust. Naturally collaborative with proven ability to thrive in a high-growth, fast-paced startup environment
    • Experience managing complex employee relations with strong tact, diplomacy and discretion
    • Strong communication skills, passion for learning, self-motivation, and self-awareness
