About You:
Are you an aerospace design engineer looking for something that you just can’t find in your current industry? Do you enjoy developing new and novel aerospace products and finding new ways to improve it?  Are you excited about changing the way people and goods fly?  If so, you might be a good fit for the team in an Design and Certification role here at Merlin.

Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for developing design and certification data for the integration of Merlin products into fixed wing aircraft in support of CAANZ and FAA STCs.  This will include; mechanical, electrical and avionic installation design aspects, with direct liaison with the equipment OEMs, manufacturers and the aircraft installer
    • Creating certification reports in support of the CAANZ and FAA STCs, including liaise with Merlin in-house FAA DERs and experts in the US and supporting New Zealand 146 organisations.
    • Production of CAD models, part manufacture and installation drawings, instructions for continued airworthiness, flight manual supplements and engineering reports.
    • Merlin takes pride in being an active and responsible member of the New Zealand aviation community; the role will include the opportunity to participate in Merlin’s wider involvement in the New Zealand aerospace sector, liaising with the national regulator and various aerospace industry groups and forums.

Requirements:

    • Bachelor of Engineering degree in a discipline applicable to Aerospace Design, or an equivalent level of competency achieved via work experience and professional development within the aviation industry.
    • 5+ years professional aviation experience or similar.
    • Experience with 3D CAD modeling and preparation of engineering drawings, structural analysis reports and structural test reports.
    • A curious mindset and inquisitive approach to solving engineering problems, as well as an attention to detail and quality.
    • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently, remotely and as part of a team

Nice to have:

    • Have previous experience working in a Part 146 Design Organisation.
    • Working knowledge and understanding of the regulatory requirements for commercial aircraft, specifically FAR 23, 25, 27 or 29.
    • Flight experience.
    • Experience in working with CAANZ, FAA, EASA or other National Regulators.
