The Company's integrated approach uses its proprietary technology to provide automotive lidar sensors and solutions for advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and for non-automotive applications including industrial, smart infrastructure and robotics. The Company has been leveraging its experience building augmented reality micro-display engines, interactive display modules, and consumer lidar modules.  
 
To strengthen our team at the Redmond location, we are looking for an Optical Engineering Manager.
 
$180,000 - $210,000 a year
Pay:
The pay range for this Washington-based position is $180,000 – $210,000.  Exact compensation offers will vary based on skills, experience, and location. This role may also be eligible for a new hire equity grant and/or a performance-based equity incentive plan.
 
Summary:
MicroVision has an exciting opportunity for an Optical Engineering Manager as a key member in our Product Development team.  As the Optical Engineering Manager, you will lead the optical engineering team’s design, test and system analysis efforts for lidar products used in various markets. 
 
Responsibilities:
-          Serve as the engineering leader and technical expert for an Optical Engineering team of 3-5 members
-          Plan and supervise optical engineering work based on company and project requirements
-          Work with directors to plan staffing, and program timelines
-          Hire, train, and manage Optical Engineering team, including one on one’s and performance feedback
-          Act as primary point of contact for technical requests to Optical Engineering team from management
-          Drive roadmap development for optical architecture considering continuous improvements in Lidar performance and state of the art in optics
-          Contribute as an experienced optical design engineer
-          Ensure the MicroVision Optical Engineering department continues to be a great place to work!
 Qualifications:
-          10+ years of optical engineering experience in new product design and development
-          2+ years of engineering management experience
-          BS or MS in optical engineering or related field
-          Experience designing lenses, free form optics and beam shaping optics for laser-based systems is required
-          Experience working in a cross functional engineering organization, working closely with the systems, mechanical, MEMS, and other teams to develop the product architecture and translate customer requirements to system requirements impacting optical design
-          Proven history planning, scheduling, and running optical development projects
-          Experience bringing products to market from the concept stage through volume manufacturing
-          Demonstrated experience using Zemax, Code V, or other tools for geometric optics, physical optics, optimization, tolerancing and sensitivity analysis
-          Experience with equipment and methods for aligning complex optical systems, both in production environments as well as NPI lines and lab environments
-          Ability to gather information and make decisions quickly when not all the facts are known
-          Knowledge of production methods for glass and plastic optics, both low and high volume, including component qualification
-          Solid communication and problem-solving skills, ability to understand complex systems and work in a fast-paced environment
-          Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English
-          Automotive industry experience a plus
MicroVision offers a flexible work schedule that could include a hybrid schedule of onsite and remote work, subject to team and business needs.  Individual work schedules will be at the discretion of management and dependent on role and business needs.  You must live and reside within commuting distance from MicroVision’s headquarters in Redmond, WA.
