Role

    • Research and develop new Mission fat systems in alignment with development briefs.
    • To stay current and up to date with ongoing research and innovation in the sustainable protein production space and animal fat alternatives/hydrocolloids/”better for you” fats.
    • Organize and execute various tests including sensory and analytical on fat-based solutions and their applications.
    • Draft SOPs for fat formulations, analytical processes etc.
    • Support the team with cell usage calculations using tool.
    • Point of contact for all functional ingredients (fats, shelf life extenders, TG, dextrose, sodium alternatives, gums, gels); initial sourcing ingredients and creating relationships with ingredient suppliers.
    • Support the Head of Food Manufacturing with scale up and commercialization projects: establish production process, nutritional labels.
    • Scope and run all shelf life studies with the lab in partnership with QA.
    • Provide technical support and troubleshoot technical challenges through prototype development process.  
    • Contribute toward preparation of Mission Barns products for tastings when required
    • $100k + salary, DOE

Managerial Responsibilities

    • Plan out the week for a direct report. This will include day to day experiment planning and details on execution and documentation.
    • Track timely data entry and continue to coach for best documentation practices.
    • Track progress through our project management software and weekly meetings.

About You

    • Food science/CPG manufacturing/Product development.
    • Bachelor's degree in Food Science with at least 6 years experience.
    • Experience of managing an intern or other food science team member.
    • Experience maintaining experiment records, drafting reports and trial plans.
    • Familiarity with manufacturing/CPG vocabulary preferred.

Commitment

    • 8 hours a day between 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
    • ~15 business days per month.
