We are hiring our first ever Accounting Manager to help us realize our mission to better the lives of animals by building a place that’s better for all of us who love them. This role will be responsible for building out the foundations of our Accounting function. Key responsibilities in this role will include the implementation and improvement of financial systems and processes that enable us to scale, ownership of the accounting and financial reporting functions, and establishing financial operations excellence that propels Modern Animal’s growth.

This leader in this role will have deep specific expertise in both technical and operational accounting, financial systems, excellent project management and communication skills, and thrive in a cross-functional environment. 
In this role, we are looking for a leader who is passionate about pets and the people who love them, and is excited about rolling up their sleeves to bring our mission to life as we grow.

What the job entails:

    • Responsible for the execution of the month end close process and related account reconciliations to ensure compliance with US GAAP
    • Working cross functionally, build scalable financial processes to support our rapid growth
    • Ownership of financial reporting function, including the creation and distribution of management and investor reporting
    • Assist with the implementation of various financial systems, including ERP, planning and inventory management
    • Serve as main point of contact for external auditors and guide us through our first ever financial statement audit
    • Subject matter expert for the evaluation and documentation of complex technical accounting and financial reporting matters
    • Work closely with Head of Finance to design and build out the finance function -- including, team, processes and systems
    • Manage compliance for income, sales, property and other taxes

Why you’d be a great fit:

    • 4+ years of Big 4 public accounting and/or industry experience
    • Financial analysis experience; including annual budgeting, long-term forecasting and ad-hoc analysis
    • Experience with financial systems (e.g., NetSuite) and implementations
    • Strong analytical skills and impeccable attention to detail
    • Collaborative go-getter, willing to roll-up sleeves and be hands-on
    • Enthusiasm for thinking outside the box to tackle complex problems
    • Demonstrated strength leveraging data and qualitative insights to drive decision making
    • Set and deliver on targets with ease
    • Exceptional organization skills & ability to manage multiple project simultaneously
    • Operate with high emotional intelligence and exceptional communication skills
