We are looking for a Sr. Electrical Systems Research Engineer to join our growing team.  Engineering at Molekule is responsible for developing and manufacturing our line of brand new air purification products, beginning first with our portable consumer air purifier.  This role will involve providing technical leadership and ownership in the growing engineering organization to facilitate the development of high quality products that push the boundaries by developing the technologies inherent to those products.

You will support Hardware Technology advancement from our research base in Lakeland, Florida.  This is a cross functional, electrical and embedded development role focused on creating a bridge from fundamental research to productization.

What you will own:

    • Manage, specification, and design of Electrical System Analytical laboratory and tools within Molekule’s Hardware Technology Advancement lab
    • Establish relationships with local vendors, contractors, and resources required for conceptual design and development
    • Research, design, build, and verify new and existing technologies at system and module level
    • Utilize first principles to create concepts in the areas of power control, motor control, analog and mixed signal electronics signal processing, and novel material selection
    • Conceptual circuit design, circuit simulations, schematic capture, PCB layout and prototype bring up, troubleshoot, and modification
    • Design systems to understand physics-based applications for off-the-shelf, slightly modified, and novel electrical systems
    • Own embedded and high level software to support prototype hardware development, test, verification, and reporting for concepts
    • Design systems with low level signals, signal conditioning, perform power and error analysis, and algorithm development for a variety of sensor types (Pressure, Temperature, Humidity, VOC, Particulate, Spectroscopy, IR)
    • Maintain records, reports, communication, administration, and files necessary to accomplish and track job objectives
    • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, professional development, reviewing technical publications, bench-marking best practices.
    • Represent company by making technical presentations regarding existing and new technology, test methods, processes to technical and non-technical audiences
    • Document designs and work closely with R&D to transfer fundamental science into concepts and then with Product and Hardware teams as these concepts can be productized
    • Work with and manage consultants and suppliers to develop best in class technologies
    • Supervision of laboratory technicians and support personnel
    • Coordinate development activities with lab technicians, suppliers, and supply chain team to accomplish new developments in a timely manner

What you will bring to Molekule:

    • 6+ years of relevant electrical system engineering experience
    • Experience in research, innovative concept development and proof of concepts
    • Strong analog, mixed signal and power electronics design, sensors and low power electronics
    • Schematic design, circuit simulation and PCB layout, preferably with Altium Designer
    • Experience in system architecture and integration with emphasis in miniaturization
    • Design with embedded micro-controllers, Op-amps, DC-DC converters, AC-DC Converters, chargers, ADC, DAC
    • Familiarity with wireless communication like WiFi and Bluetooth
    • Experience with data acquisition systems setup, design, testing, data collection and analysis
    • Strong embedded software experience in C
    • Experience with varieties of lab test equipment, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, function generators, power supplies, SMU, high precision DMMs, data loggers, etc
    • Highly creative, self-motivated learner
    • Experience with serial communication protocols like UART, I2C, SPI, I2S, SWI and USB
    • Skilled in circuit tolerance analysis, design reviews and root cause analysis of complex issues
    • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
    • Proven ability to work independently on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
    • Proven ability to effectively develop plans and meet deadlines reliably
    • Ability to multitask, focus on details and ability to drive issues to resolution

Preferred Qualification:

    • Previous experience with medical devices, other regulated products, or non-consumer product research and development
    • Experience with rechargeable battery powered electronics
    • Experience with chemical processes, spectroscopy
    • Knowledge of Python and/or other scripting languages
    • Experience with Real-time Operating System (RTOS)
    • History designing electro-mechanical systems, PID controls, and risk-driven control models
