The Diet Technician will provide telephonic nutrition assessments to members beginning a Medically Tailored Meals program. Assessments are intended to gauge the appropriateness of Medically Tailored Meals for the individual based on their unique health condition and recommend the appropriate meal type accordingly. Utilizing a member-centric approach, the Diet Technician will collaborate with the member to understand their chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, or kidney disease and the nutrition sensitivities related to their condition. The Diet Technician may also identify other member needs and connect them to resources available from the health plan or system or in their community.
Hourly Range: $17.25-25.02
This position will average 20-24 hours across 3+ days/week M-F.
Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to
- Under the supervision of the Registered Dietitian, provide telephonic nutrition assessments to members
- Collect and review food and nutrient intake information (e.g., current and previous diets, meal and snack patterns, nutritional supplements, typical foods and beverages, chewing and swallowing difficulties, cultural and religious preferences, and food allergies and intolerances)
- Provide nutrition interventions/plans of care (e.g. menu correction, diet education) as designed and directed by the Registered Dietitian
- Identify community resources for members as needed
- Maintain and update professional knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
- Primary member population is in California, so working hours for this position would be 9:00am-6:00pm Pacific Time
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum of an associate’s degree in nutrition/dietetics from an accredited college or university
- Certification as a Nutrition and Dietetics Technicians, Registered (NDTR) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptops computers and smartphones
- Work independently and has a strong sense of responsibility carrying out the required job duties with a minimum amount of daily supervision
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Verbally fluent in Spanish with proficiency in medical and nutrition terminology in Spanish
- Previous experience providing telephonic nutritional screenings or assessments
- Training in health coaching or motivational interviewing
Physical Requirements
- Repetitive motions that include the wrists, hands and/or fingers
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting, remaining in a stationary position for prolonged periods
- Visual perception to perform job including peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
