As we continue to grow, we’re seeking an Analytics Engineer II to join our Data Platform team. You’ll work your magic at the intersection of data engineering and business analytics, crafting the models, pipelines, and tools that keep our business growing and our hungry pets thriving.
In this role, you’ll report to our Data Platform Lead and collaborate closely with our Analytics team to build and maintain a data infrastructure that’s robust, dependable, and actionable. This role is ideally based remotely in the northeastern U.S., but we’re open to exceptional candidates from other locations.
What You'll Do:
- Design and implement analytical data models using SQL in dbt and Snowflake, focusing on accuracy, performance, and scalability for our eCommerce business
- Own and maintain the semantic layer of our data modeling, defining and managing metrics, dimensions, and joins to ensure consistent and accurate reporting across the organization
- Collaborate with the Analytics team to understand their data needs and translate them into effective data models and metrics
- Own the implementation and maintenance of our Segment tracking plan, ensuring comprehensive and accurate event tracking across our digital properties
- Support the Product team in their use of Mixpanel for event analysis, ensuring alignment between Segment data and Mixpanel insights
- Develop and maintain self-service analytics strategies for Lightdash and Looker, empowering business users to access insights independently from our team
- Assist in documenting data lineage, definitions, and usage guidelines to promote data literacy across the organization
- Collaborate with the Sr. Data Engineer and Sr. Machine Learning Ops Engineer to ensure analytics infrastructure aligns with broader data platform initiatives
Who You Are:
- 3+ years of experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or a related field, preferably in an eCommerce or subscription-based business
- Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with dbt, with a focus on dimensional modeling for business intelligence
- Hands-on experience with Snowflake or similar cloud data warehouses, and familiarity with data pipeline development
- Expertise in Segment implementation, including structuring tracking plans and designing event properties for comprehensive analytics
- Familiarity with event analytics tools like Mixpanel, and an understanding of how to align event data across platforms
- Experience with business intelligence tools such as Lightdash, Looker, or similar platforms for creating self-service analytics dashboards
- Solid understanding of eCommerce metrics and KPIs, and how to model data to support their calculation and analysis
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate business questions into data models and queries
- Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to manage projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Enthusiasm for learning and adapting to new technologies and methodologies in the rapidly evolving field of data analytics
