The Legal and Licensing Assistant supports the Corporate Counsel in all legal and licensing matters, including gathering and maintaining documents and information from Federal, State and local authorities relative to company regulatory requirements; assists Native Roots and its affiliates with corporate organization and licensing requirements in various jurisdictions where Native Roots operates (currently US and Canada, but includes all future jurisdictions); and maintains corporate and other business documents, generates reports and tracks deadlines. Assists with managing all licensing applications as well as other documents needed for completion of the applications; assists with facilitating communication between state and local authorities and the Native Roots executive team; and provides assistance with problem-solving complex matters.

Duties and Responsibilities

    • Assists with managing licensing of all Native Roots operations/retail stores, medical centers, cultivation facilities, infused product facilities, warehouses and other permits.  Includes renewals, new applications, modifications of premise, change of corporate structure, etc.
    • Assists with management of auxiliary Native Roots business requirements, including sales tax licensing, alarm user permits, leases, BoulderEnergy reporting and Secretary of State filings
    • Maintain licensing and legal business records
    • Knowledge and understanding of state and local government rules and regulations
    • Assist with managing and tracking Legal Dept. contracts and assist with contract administration, litigation and administrative proceedings as required
    • Communicate with state and local authorities regarding status of licenses and pending applications
    • Report and problem solve with Native Roots team on concerns from state and local agencies
    • Manage spreadsheets used for tracking different deadlines, ie alarm user permit, leases, license expiration, etc.
    • Operational strategizing
    • Attend government policy meetings
    • Notary services, if necessary
    • Crises management and problem-solving for licensing issues that arise
    • Provide licensing support to employees at store level
    • Gathering, formatting, analyzing, and providing data to upper level business departments
    • Administrative duties
    • Maintaining legal/licensing department calendar
    • Regular attendance is expected and is considered an essential function necessary for the efficient operation of the business
    • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree required with post-graduate education or certification preferred
    • Paralegal, or legal experience  preferred
    • Minimum 2 years’ experience within a regulated industry
    • Ability to follow directions and work independently with minimal supervision
    • Ability to multi-task and adapt to an ever-changing environment
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Research skills
    • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to work a flexible and demanding schedule as needed
    • Ability to communicate with law enforcement and government officials
    • Knowledge of operational and state licensing aspects of Medical Centers, Retail Stores, Retail Cultivations, Medical Cultivations, and Infused Product Manufacturing preferred
    • Administrative experience preferred
    • Organization skills required

    • Excellent interpersonal, customer service and communication skills
    • Basic computer skills and comprehensive understanding of Microsoft Office

    • Ability to work well with all levels of integral management and staff
    • Clean driving record, driver’s license and access to a vehicle
    • Ability to travel as necessary
