As an intern in our Biotech R&D team you will work together with Scientists and Research Associates.  Tasks could include plasmid construction, bacterial and fungal transformation, culturing, DNA quality control, next generation sequencing analysis, transformant screening, genetic part characterization, preparing buffer and media, stocking consumables, etc.

We are looking for local candidates this summer as the role is on site at 2250 W Campbell Park Dr. Chicago, IL

Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Work directly with the Biotech R&D team, conducting laboratory-based research work  using microbiology and molecular approaches
    • Conduct bench-top work, analyze, summarize and present scientific outcomes
    • Provide accurate, clear, and concise reports and documentation on R&D activities

Role Requirements:

    • Currently pursuing a Bachelors in Synthetic Biology, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Laboratory Automation, Chemical Engineering, or a related field and completed at least two years or pursuing a graduate degree in a relevant filed
    • Previous hands-on experience with basic molecular and/or microbiology techniques
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite of programs including excel
    • Strong organizational, time management, record keeping, and prioritization skills
    • Independent, hard-working, and highly self-motivated
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skills
    • Desire to work in a team and assist other team members
    • Exhibit a strong sense of professional and personal integrity
    • Inherent curiosity and creativity in solving problems to understand how things work
    • Ability to handle and maintain the confidentiality of highly sensitive information
    • Awareness of safety issues in the work environment
