We are hiring for a Principal Systems Engineer to join our growing team.  This role will be a critical part of how products are developed in order to successfully deliver a comprehensive proteomics platform to our customers.

This position will be responsible for leading the program-level systems engineering efforts within the organization. This role entails working closely with multiple cross-functional teams in R&D, along with Program Management, Product Management and other stakeholders, in the development and commercialization of Nautilus products.

This role will lead the logical and systematic conversion of stakeholder/user needs and performance requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.  

To be successful in this position, individuals must be driven to innovate and have extensive experience in all aspects of design and development process. The ideal candidate is a skilled leader with excellent attention to detail, the ability to work independently and to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.

This position will report to the Director of Program Management and will be located in either Seattle, WA or San Carlos, CA.

Responsibilities

    • Lead systems engineering activities at Nautilus, establishing best practices and guidance
    • Lead requirements management activities, including requirements allocation and traceability
    • Coordinate across multi-disciplinary teams to translate the stakeholder/ user needs, program schedules, and research milestones into system requirements and deliverables
    • Contribute to product development by creating product / platform level system architecture, documentation, and testing strategies with teams
    • Drive design verification and validation planning
    • Contribute to risk management processes
    • Work with technical team leadership to advance and coordinate overall system development
    • Serves as a role model to others for translating complex and technical information into actionable plans

Requirements

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, such as Biomedical or Systems Engineering. Advanced Degree strongly preferred
    • 10+ years of systems engineering experience, including system architecture and requirements management
    • 10+ years of new product development experience
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively integrate information from varied disciplines and work within a highly cross functional R&D environment
    • Experience with complex systems including assays, consumables, hardware, and software throughout the entire product development life cycle
    • Extensive understanding of end-to-end product development process, from concept and feasibility to product commercialization
    • Hands-on experience in using tools for requirements management and verification and validation planning required
    • Experience with good Project Management practices
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to lead through influence to ensure team alignment in order to achieve product development and commercialization goals
