Nectar, a 40+ person communications agency headquartered in SF,  is seeking an HR/People professional to lead people operations and employee experience for Nectar’s multiple offices and remote team members. This person will be a member of the Nectar Leadership team contributing high level strategic thinking while also executing people programs and tasks. Other responsibilities include culture building and development, recruiting and employee onboarding, employee relations, performance management and learning and development. Above all, this individual will be responsible for helping to make Nectar a great place to work and an employer of choice for communications professionals where they can learn, grow and do some of the best work of their lives.

Responsibilities include: 

Culture & Strategy:

    • Act as a strategic advisor to company leadership as well as a generalist who is recognized as a trustworthy and professional point of contact within the company for all things people-related.
    • Support company culture building and development initiatives; identify opportunities to enhance employee experience through the entire employee lifecycle
    • Provide guidance and counsel to the entire Nectar team by establishing an “open door” for all matters culture and people related
    • Partner with leadership to develop an agency training curriculum aimed at developing managers, enhancing overall team skills, and encouraging growth and development for all Nectarines
    • Drive leadership awareness, commitment and accountability for the employee experience and diversity action plans across the business

Talent & Recruiting

    • Manage the talent/recruiting function: review and update job descriptions, post positions, conduct candidate outreach, screen candidates, coordinate interviews, support hiring managers, conduct reference checks and prepare offer letters for new hires. Potentially partner with outside agencies as needed
    • Oversee the new hire on-boarding process to ensure proper team and agency training and orientation. Ensure all necessary onboarding documents / paperwork are properly completed
    • Respond to employee questions regarding benefits, payroll, and company policies
    • Help to deliver coaching and development feedback to managers and employees
    • Address employee concerns; conduct investigations and partner with legal counsel when necessary
    • Assist managers with disciplinary action, PIPs, roles changes and terminations
    • Assess employee development needs and make recommendations for appropriate training/support
    • Work closely with the leadership team to manage annual performance reviews and be an agency expert on performance management tools.
    • Partner with Finance on compensation and rewards


    • Ensure compliance as it relates to company policies, annual reporting, employee training, the employee handbook, and other documentation as needed in relation to federal, state and local laws
    • Maintain HRIS system and ensure all employee changes are properly inputted and that files remain up-to-date
    • Assist with employee immigration processes and leaves of absences as needed

Payroll, Benefits and Compensation:

    • Develop, implement and manage compensation and benefits programs and policies that are aligned with the market, fair, equitable and reward great work
    • Act as the agency expert on all matters related to Nectar’s benefit offerings; help with the open enrollment process, answer employee questions, and partner with broker to ensure offerings are competitive and robust
    • Assist in 401(k), payroll, compensation and benefits audits

Must haves:

    • 6+ plus years of people operations experience with ideally 1 year at a creative or professional services firm
    • Direct experience managing a wide range of HR programs with an ability to balance being strategic and executing tactical day-to-day needs
    • Trustworthy and approachable with the maturity to handle confidential information and interact with staff at all levels of the organization
    • Likes the challenge of working in a growing organization, where new processes and support systems are created and modified as Nectar grows
    • Positive, proactive attitude that reflects the many hats worn by all employees at Nectar
    • Ability to establish priorities, manage work independently and meet deadlines

    • BA or BS; S/PHR or similar HR certification preferred
