Nova Credit is seeking a highly qualified Finance and Accounting Manager to support our day-to-day financial operations. Core responsibilities include managing our external accounting team, owning financial statements, AP/AR, tax compliance, internal controls, audits, and more. This is a unique opportunity to initially lead the accounting function and later grow into a role within FP&A.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Finance & Strategy. Candidates based out of the New York Metropolitan area are preferred. 

Responsibilities Include:

    • Accounting Operations: Run and optimize accounting operations and processes, such as the preparation and reconciliation of financial statements and reports; Manage accounts receivables & payables, including preparing customer invoices, resolving payment issues, and maintaining accurate records of all transactions; Develop, implement, and maintain business policies, accounting policies, and financial controls; Manage, organize, and control access to all accounting and finance information and files
    • Finance, Compliance, Audit, and Filings: Ensure financial & tax regulation compliance, including implementing consistent accounting procedures, preparing tax filings with external accountants, and staying current on domestic and international legal requirements; Act as audit liaison for any external party (e.g., enterprise customers, credit bureau partners) audit needs
    • Financial Budgeting and Reporting: Develop and maintain financial budgets (inc. comp design) in collaboration with cross-functional teams and in the context of the company’s strategic goals; Monitor and analyze financial performance to assess potential operational risk, identify opportunities for cost optimization, and drive profitability
    • Vendor Relationship Management: Manage financial vendor relationships, including external accounting and banking partners; Identify vendor cost-saving opportunities, and negotiate vendor contracts & terms

WITHIN THE FIRST MONTH YOU'LL:

    • Familiarize yourself with company financial reporting and accounting processes
    • Run account receivables & payables in collaboration with external accountants
    • Familiarize yourself with our international finance and accounting operations
    • Get to know the company's working style, goals, mission, and values
    • Become acquainted with your fellow Novans and key cross-functional stakeholders

WITHIN THE FIRST QUARTER YOU'LL:

    • Own the financial close and all accounting processes, identifying areas for standardization and automation
    • Partner with the People team on company-wide expense policies and procedures
    • Lay the groundwork for our first financial audit

WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR, YOU'LL:

    • Become the subject matter expert for all things financial operations
    • Optimize and implement accounting procedures and best practices, streamlining the company’s financial management engine
    • Complete our first financial audit
    • Partner with the GTM team to standardize pricing structures
    • Provide financial analysis and insights to support decision-making and strategic planning
    • Work cross-functionally to design and prepare the annual budget

Requirements and Qualifications:

    • A minimum of 4 years of experience in finance, with at least 3 of those years in accounting
    • Passion for process optimization and standardization
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, and Quickbooks Online
    • General experience with accounting/financial systems, tools, and software (e.g., Bill.com, Ramp, Brex, etc.)
    • Proven expertise in accounting and financial operations
    • Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
    • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in financial reporting and analysis
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and adapt to changing priorities
    • Proactive, self-motivated, and able to prioritize tasks efficiently
    • Experience working in a tech startup environment with international operations preferred
    • CPA or CMA certification is preferred
$110,000 - $150,000 a year
The Base Salary Range is for U.S.-based candidates and is dependent on individual experience, skills, education, location, and qualifications.
