This role is based in Toronto, Canada. 

Who we are:  

New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) is New Zealand's international business development agency. We work with some of New Zealand's most forward-thinking companies, helping them grow internationally bigger, better, faster.  

We are looking for a Business Growth Advisor to help New Zealand industrial tech and manufacturing businesses to enter and expand in Canada. This role offers exposure to New Zealand’s most innovative industrial tech & manufacturing companies and provides the opportunity to work alongside a diverse range of founders, CXOs and stakeholders.   

 
What you’ll be doing:   

You will support a portfolio of NZ Industrial Tech companies to develop and execute their GTM plans and accelerate their North American growth.     

We need your commercial smarts, know-how and know-who to manage a portfolio of manufacturing companies and play a key role in evaluating their strengths and weaknesses, to support them with market entry and growth strategies. You’ll possess strong business eco-system networks and be passionate about building business capability, understanding industry trends to identify potential growth opportunities, helping to develop new channels to market.   

The portfolio is diverse, so we need a highly-curious proactive ‘doer’ with a passion for learning about new and interesting industrial technologies in a range of sectors including aviation, marine, construction, food & beverage equipment, robotics, and energy/utilities.

This is a coaching role and requires commercial savvy, a healthy dose of EQ and a proven understanding of the growth phases of industrial manufacturing companies 

 
What you’ll need to be successful: 

We are looking for an individual who can comfortably work across several technical and functional areas, with flexibility and dynamism to manage a unique portfolio of customers from SMEs to multinationals, supporting CEOs to sales managers.  It goes without saying, we need someone who’s adaptable and ideally has experience in an advisory role.    

 You are a strong relationship builder and can leverage networks with ease.  You have an enthusiastic “make it happen” attitude, are used to ball juggling and working across time zones.    

You’ll be empathetic and take the time to listen, understand and ask killer question before recommending a way forward.  You quickly build rapport, influence, and work collaboratively, sum of the parts and all that. 

As 1 of 2 people on the ground in Toronto, and part of a wider One Global Team you will be an exceptional team player that values the insights and ideas of others. You’ll occasionally roll up your sleeves to help deliver programs for visiting New Zealand government ministers and senior officials.   

Ideally you also bring:   
- At least 5 years' experience in a commercial role where you have worked with a portfolio of companies to support their growth. 
- Keen business acumen and a willingness to 'roll your sleeves up'. 
- Superior communication, business consulting, and relationship management skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly. 
-Understanding of how to develop and leverage industry networks within the Canadian market and a sound knowledge of the Canadian business environment, specifically in manufacturing. 
- Flexibility, adaptability, and comfort working with ambiguity. 
- Experience in building GTM strategies, marketing, channel partner management, business consulting, or enterprise sales. 
- If you know or love NZ, that's a plus! 

 Please note, internally this role is known as a Business Development Manager (BDM).

This is a remote role requiring you to work principally from your home office and occasionally from coworking spaces when meeting with customers and peers in Toronto. Travel is required to visit industry events, customers, and attend team meetings. You will report to the Trade Commissioner in Vancouver.

This role is banded at TOR L17 and indicative salary range is between approx. $125,000 - $140,000 per annum.
