New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) is New Zealand's international business development agency. We work with some of New Zealand’s most forward-thinking companies, helping them to grow globally.
 
What you will be doing: 
Our dynamic Japan team is on the hunt for a highly connected and vibrant Business Development Manager to be based in Tokyo. We're seeking someone with extensive networks in Japan to guide a portfolio of New Zealand businesses through the intricacies of entering, navigating, and flourishing in the Japanese market.
 
In this varied role, you'll actively assist New Zealand companies in crafting and executing their business growth strategies. This includes strategic introductions, conducting thorough market analysis to tailor approaches to the Japanese market, and identifying potential partners within the market. You'll also play a key role in opening new avenues to market, coaching our New Zealand companies on their journey, and optimising growth opportunities.
 
A superb relationship manager and team player, you will be involved in supporting growth across a range of sectors in our team and working with NZ companies to help them succeed in in Japan. You will be part of a global organisation working with colleagues in your region, New Zealand and our other international offices to achieve the New Zealand government's economic development goals.
 
What you will need to be successful: 
·       Strong Japanese connections with proven experience in business development/sales roles
·       Commercial smarts and know-how to manage a portfolio of companies, you’ll play a key role in evaluating their strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities and supporting them with market entry and navigating growth strategies in the Japanese market. 
·       Deep experience in food and beverage and FMCG would be advantageous.
·       Superior communication, business consulting and relationship management skills with the ability to build rapport quickly.
 
Proven commercial acumen is critical, as is the ability to work alongside CEOs and a willingness to 'roll your sleeves up'. Well-connected, you’ll have a strong sense for doing business in Japan.
 
Fluency in Japanese & English is required. You will already need to be eligible to work in Japan for NZTE.
