Are you a strategic, commercial leader with a passion for helping Kiwi businesses succeed on the world stage? NZTE is looking for a Director Capital Solutions to lead our capital solutions strategy and team, ensuring New Zealand exporters have the financial support and advice they need to grow internationally.

Te Taurapa Tūhono | New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) is the government agency charged with helping New Zealand businesses to grow internationally. By supporting New Zealand businesses, we boost New Zealand's economy and reputation, and help to share what's special about New Zealand with the rest of the world. 

Capital Solutions is a key part of NZTE’s customer service offering, helping New Zealand exporters grow internationally by improving their financial capability and access to funding. The Capital Solutions team leverages our extensive knowledge and global networks to support exporters achieve international growth.  We work alongside customers to encourage them to be proactive in thinking about what funding options are best for their business.  Do they have sufficient capital to execute, and the capability to drive a successful financial model?  What options and scenarios should the business prepare for to enable growth?  Our team also ensures the International Growth Fund (IGF) is activated at the right place and time, to support customers build capability and accelerate market development activities by co-investing in growth projects.


What you’ll be doing:  
As Director Capital Solutions, you’ll lead a team of investment and IGF specialists, oversee the International Growth Fund (IGF), and drive our capital solutions strategy that enables market development and business growth. You’ll build strong relationships across NZTE, government, and the private sector, and play a vital role in integrating services across the Customer Solutions Group to deliver impactful, coordinated support to exporters. 
Key Responsibilities include:
• Set the Direction: Shape and deliver NZTE’s capital solutions strategy, ensuring it aligns with our organisational goals and delivers real value to exporters.
• Lead the Team: Build, coach, and inspire a team of commercial professionals, fostering a high-performance, customer-focused culture.
• Manage the Pipeline: Identify and prioritise opportunities to strengthen the financial capability of our customers, supporting domestic capital raising and international growth.
• Oversee the IGF: Ensure the International Growth Fund is well-managed, delivers strong results, and the team provides great customer advice and support.
• Deliver Impact: Provide credible, tailored advice to companies on funding options, financial planning, and capital strategies.
• Engage Stakeholders: Build strong relationships across NZTE, Invest NZ, government agencies, and the private sector to maximise opportunities for New Zealand businesses.
• Drive Improvement: Continuously innovate and improve tools, processes, and resources to enhance team effectiveness and customer outcomes.
• Be a Thought Leader: Represent NZTE as an expert on capital issues at key industry events.


What you’ll need to be successful   
You’re a credible strategic and commercial leader who inspires people, in your team and in your wider circles.  Leading high performing and high functioning teams is something you’re passionate about.  You are well-connected and love finding ways to collaborate with others, both within your own organisation and externally to get the best results for our customers. 
Key skills include: 
• Proven leadership experience in investment banking, M&A, corporate finance, capital raising or professional services
• Strong knowledge of New Zealand’s business landscape and financial ecosystem.
• Experience building and leading high-performing teams.
• Ability to develop and execute strategy, and to influence senior stakeholders.
• Excellent relationship-building and networking skills.
• An understanding of the political framework in which NZTE operates
• Tertiary qualification in Finance, Economics, Commerce, or Accountancy (or at least five years’ relevant experience).
• Commercial mindset, customer focus, and a collaborative, “one team” approach.
