NextGen Federal Systems, LLC (NextGen) is seeking a proactive, experienced, and entrepreneurial professional for the role of Technical Director – Digital Engineering supporting Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Community (IC) programs.  Successful candidates need to thrive in a fast-paced environment, wear multiple hats, and be driven by strong growth potential within a highly competitive market. 
 
This position provides an important leadership role in the delivery and growth of a diverse portfolio of modeling and simulation and/or digital engineering solutions and technical services. Responsibilities span leading project execution, engaging with the digital engineering community, developing innovative solutions, and enabling staff professional growth, to further grow this line of business at NextGen.
 
NextGen Digital Engineering teams build high fidelity digital prototypes employing Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Digital Mission Engineering (DME) approaches in support of new systems development across the system lifecycle, from requirements through design and testing.  Our teams use a digital engineering ecosystem to deliver digital threads that integrate SysML models (developed in Cameo) with modeling simulation and analysis (MS&A) tools such as ModelCenter STK, HFSS, AFSIM, OneSAF, NGTS, Unreal Engine, etc.
 
As a technical leader and mentor in the company, the Technical Director reports to a Division Manager and regularly collaborates with the executive and senior management staff to contribute to the overall growth and benefit of the company.
 
The Technical Director provides overall technical guidance for NextGen Digital Engineering efforts and leads development of near-term and long-term technology roadmaps to help grow the business. This position leads and supports customer interface and engagement, provides guidance to technical teams, and supports programs and program managers with technical requirements. 
 
The Technical Director is involved in project execution as needed: can act as a technical lead, a subject matter expert, or a system architect. The Technical Director helps implement software engineering processes and is involved in corporate process improvement efforts as needed.
 
The Technical Director supports business development activities through opportunity evaluation, technical solutioning, and proposal development. The Technical Director supports development and delivery of value propositions to help programs grow as well as create new opportunities in adjacent markets. Significant interaction with customers, partners, and community stakeholders is expected to position the company to win new business.

QUALIFICATIONS

    • A qualified candidate will have demonstrated the following:

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE

    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or related technical domain
    • Understanding of software technologies, standards, processes, and metrics
    • Understanding of software architectures and execution of the software development lifecycle
    • Deep and broad understanding of Digital Engineering (DE) concepts, Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) practices, Digital Mission Engineering (DME) methods, and Modeling Simulation and Analysis (MS&A) tools.
    • Knowledge of relevant US DoD developments and systems

TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE

    • 10+ years technical and/or management experience with responsibilities to include:
    • Technical Lead, Solution Architect, and/or Proposal Development
    • Hands-on recent experience with multiple MBSE and MS&A tools.
    • Track record and success in supporting organizations across technical services and solutions
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex requirements and technical documents
    • Experience working directly with end users to elicit requirements

    • Experience and ability to interact with senior-level customers, achieving high levels of customer intimacy and collaboration
    • Ability to establish and articulate a technical vision and achieve meaningful change and growth

ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Strong experience, knowledge, and understanding of DoD C5ISR market and customers
    • Established DoD, IC, or Federal related industry, customer, and partner relationships
    • Advanced proposal writing skills; ability to lead proposal through development and submittal
    • Ability to build strong relationships while balancing ethical and professional behavior
    • Other industry-relevant certifications

SECURITY CLEARANCE

    • Must have a DoD Secret clearance with ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret (TS) and Sensitive Compartmental Information (SCI).

RESPONSIBILITIES

    • As a member of Engineering Leadership:
    • Support development of recruiting priorities and execution of hiring process and interviews
    • Proactively build and leverage relationships with other senior technical staff, and corporate functional support to collaborate across the company for optimal success
    • Make thoughtful, systematic decisions and act accordingly (get input and build consensus; communicate decisions and rationale; consider the impact of decisions)
    • Lead and participate in process/tool improvements and drive quality initiatives including CMMI and ISO 
    • When acting as System Architect or Technical Lead for a project:
    • Lead the specification, design and development of systems or services solutions
    • Translate system requirements and customer needs into quality technical solutions
    • Provide high level design and allocation of requirements to subsystems
    • Lead system/service development using Agile, Scrum, Kanban, etc. 
    • Assign technical tasks to appropriate members of the team to maintain tight schedules
    • In support of Business Development:
    • Understand business objectives, priorities and company’s vision.
    • Support pursuing new business opportunities
    • Represent the company and division to customers, industry, and partners
    • Communicate corporate capabilities, value, and excitement
    • Provide technical support during opportunity evaluation and qualification
    • Lead technical solutioning for new proposals, involving other technical staff as needed
    • Support proposal development through managing, authoring, and reviewing technical volumes
