NextGen Federal Systems is seeking a Lead Cloud Engineer who will be responsible for the design, implementation, optimization, and oversight of cloud infrastructure on our Federal Law Enforcement program. This role defines cloud architecture standards, ensures compliance with security and regulatory requirements, manages cloud cost efficiency, and drives continuous innovation in cloud adoption and usage. The Lead Cloud Engineer works closely with cross-functional technical teams to ensure seamless integration of cloud solutions across diverse environments and business functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect scalable, secure, and highly available cloud infrastructure solutions following industry best practices.
- Define and enforce cloud architecture standards to ensure consistency, security, performance, and efficiency.
- Monitor cloud environments (e.g., AWS and Azure) for performance issues, troubleshoot complex problems, and resolve bottlenecks to maintain system health and reliability.
- Implement and manage robust security protocols and practices in line with industry standards and government regulations to ensure system compliance.
- Lead efforts to optimize cloud spend by analyzing usage, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and implementing effective cost management strategies.
- Leverage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation to automate deployment, scaling, and management of cloud infrastructure.
- Support cloud-native development models including the use of containers, Kubernetes, and microservices to enhance flexibility and scalability.
- Provide mentorship and technical leadership to a team of cloud engineers, ensuring adherence to cloud governance policies and delivery excellence.
- Collaborate with enterprise IT, security, and development teams to integrate cloud services with existing infrastructure and solutions.
- Stay up to date with emerging cloud technologies and industry trends to continuously improve the organization’s cloud strategy.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Management, or a related field
- Minimum of six (6) years of recent experience (within the last two years) providing cloud engineering support similar in scope to the work described in the PWS.
- Current AWS certification
- Demonstrated experience with cloud-native architectures, including containerization (e.g., Docker), orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes), and microservices.
- Deep expertise in Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure, with a solid understanding of cloud computing components such as networking, storage, compute, and security.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell for automation and infrastructure management.
- Proven ability to lead and mentor engineering teams, with strong collaboration and communication skills for cross-functional teamwork.
