Electrical/Instrumentation & Controls Engineering Internship or Co-Op (Summer 2026)

The Electrical/I&C Engineer Co-op or Intern will work alongside other Electrical and I&C Engineers to prepare drawings, instrument specifications, calculations, and other deliverables for our clients’ design projects. The position will also require interface with team members in our other engineering disciplines to provide cohesive engineering packages to our clients.
Responsibilities
- Complete calculations of limited complexity, with supervision as needed; may include lighting distribution, conduit/cable tray fills, voltage drop, feeder sizing, control valve and flow meter sizing etc.
- Develop and maintain Electrical Single Line Diagrams, Schematic/Interconnection Diagrams, Conduit/Cable Schedules, block and loop drawings, Plans for Lighting, Grounding, Power, Controls, Raceway, etc.
- Support the development of Power System Study models for short circuit, load flow, protective device coordination and arc flash calculations efforts.
- Provide support with instrument specifications
- Assist experienced Electrical and Instrumentation & Control Engineers with their activities as requested
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree (or equivalent education) in Electrical or Chemical Engineering from a four-year accredited college or university
- Effective communication skills in order to convey ideas is a must
- Ability to work within diverse teams assembled from Nexus, clients, and others
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Excel and Word
- Seeks feedback to improve performance
- Experience with AutoCAD and Navisworks or other drafting software preferred
- Familiarity with Power System Modeling software (ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower) is desirable
Potential Experiences
- Gain an understanding of the business and engineering work flow in a consulting firm
- Observe and learn the application of electrical distribution concepts and systems such as protective schemes, device coordination, emergency power, motor control, hazardous area installation methods, etc.
- Expand capabilities with drafting software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, Plant 3D, Revit, Inventor, Navisworks, or others
- Prepare instrument specifications and request quotes from vendors
- Learn about process safety and its importance in the design and operation of our clients’ facilities
- Exposure to and application of industry codes and standards related to the electrical and I&C discipline
- Introduction to utility interface voltages and client medium and low voltage distribution systems
