Platform engineers strike a balance between precision and disruption, between reliability and innovation. Nielsen is a tech company backed by over a century of forward momentum to show the world what’s next—and we couldn’t do it without our platform engineers.

In Nielsen Media, we are the market leader that drives content ratings across virtually all viewing platforms including local and national TV, streaming, digital advertising, and more.  This role is in the Media Platform team, where we heavily leverage open source software, kubernetes, and cloud technologies to build a single central platform for managing compute, storage, orchestration, data science tooling, monitoring, and so much more.  Our platform already deals with tens of petabytes of data, hundreds of thousands of cpus and millions of containers every month, and it is continually growing.

RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Perform architectural reviews for critical business products to ensure they are properly built for reliability, scalability, and cost optimization.
    • Drive cost optimization and efficiency across the platform cloud portfolio.
    • Establish platform guidelines, best practices, and reference architectures to be enforced throughout Nielsen.
    • Mentor other platform team members to increase their technical and soft skills.

    • 10+ years of experience in a DevOps role leading critical projects.
    • Intensive knowledge of core DevOps concepts and tools spanning source control, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, monitoring, alerting, and logging.
    • Deep knowledge of kubernetes and AWS (or a rival cloud) is mandatory.
    • A history of designing and implementing complex products within AWS (or a rival cloud).
    • Past experience optimizing cost over large-scale cloud infrastructure.
    • Proficiency in Linux, with knowledge of networking and DNS.
    • Experience with Big Data (Spark, Presto/Trino, etc) and streaming (Kafka/etc) is a plus.
