About the Team
The DevOps Engineer in the Technical Operations department is responsible to maintain, support and improve the infrastructure required for a DevOps culture, providing right tools and processes needed to seamlessly and efficiently ship code every day with an acceptable level of quality. The engineer will be part of the team driving the DevOps processes and collaboration between product management, software engineering, and operations.
The role falls under the Technical Operations department, which is responsible for the provisioning, configuration, operation and maintenance of Nium infrastructure. These systems include highly available and scalable production Java based web applications, as well as Pre-Prod, QA and development environments and tools. Apart from the existing proprietary and ancillary systems, Nium is building the next-generation microservice platform, with fully automated release and deployment cycles, making use of hybrid-cloud infrastructure. The DevOps engineer will be part of the team managing all systems and migrating services to new infrastructure whilst abiding with SLAs.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of our cloud infrastructure, primarily leveraging AWS.
- Architect and manage complex Kubernetes clusters, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security.
- Drive the adoption and implementation of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform for robust and repeatable deployments.
- Develop and maintain sophisticated CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, or any other relevant tools to automate software delivery from development to production.
- Expertly manage Docker containers and define Helm charts for efficient application deployment and management.
- Provide deep technical expertise in Linux operating systems and develop advanced automation scripts using Bash, Python, and Groovy.
- Proactively identify and resolve complex infrastructure and application issues, ensuring high system uptime and performance.
- Design and implement comprehensive monitoring and alerting solutions using Prometheus, Grafana, and Zabbix to ensure system health and performance.
- Collaborate with development teams to optimize application performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure smooth deployments.
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies and tools to improve our DevOps practices and infrastructure.
- Mentor and guide junior DevOps engineers, sharing knowledge and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
- Experience with database administration (MySQL, MSSQL, MongoDB, NoSQL) is a significant plus, including schema design, performance tuning, and backup/recovery strategies.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in a DevOps or SRE role with a strong focus on cloud solutions.
- Extensive hands-on experience with AWS, including core services like EKS, S3, VPC, RDS, IAM, etc.
- Deep expertise in Kubernetes, including cluster setup, management, and troubleshooting.
- Mandatory proficiency with Docker and Helm for container orchestration and application packaging.
- Proven experience with Terraform for Infrastructure as Code.
- Exceptional working knowledge of Linux operating systems and advanced scripting in Bash, Python, and Groovy.
- Demonstrated experience in building and optimizing complex CI/CD processes from scratch.
- Expert-level experience with Jenkins, SonarQube, GitLab, and Bitbucket.
- Proven experience in implementing and managing monitoring solutions like Zabbix, Prometheus, and Grafana.
- Strong understanding of networking concepts, security best practices, and distributed systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly.
