Position Summary
The ESY Nurse provides comprehensive health services to support student wellness and academic success during the summer session. This role ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal guidelines and upholds the health and safety standards set by NOLA Public Schools.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Health Services & Compliance
- Meet performance and compliance standards for nursing assignments as established by NOLA-PS and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
- Monitor and maintain confidential student health records in accordance with privacy and regulatory guidelines.
- Conduct and coordinate health screenings (e.g., vision, hearing) as required by health mandates or referrals.
- Assess and manage students' health needs, including the administration of medications, treatments, and first aid.
- Respond to medical emergencies and provide immediate, appropriate care until further support is available.
- Assist in controlling the spread of communicable diseases by following proper protocols and reporting procedures.
- Health Education & Collaboration
- Promote a culture of health and wellness aligned with the school’s mission.
- Educate students, families, and staff on health-related topics, such as hygiene, nutrition, and injury prevention.
- Plan, implement, and support health instruction programs in coordination with school staff.
- Serve as a resource for school personnel on health-related concerns and protocols.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to develop and implement individualized healthcare plans for students with chronic illnesses or special health needs.
- Professionalism & Development
- Maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic school clinic that meets infection control standards.
- Participate in ESY staff meetings, in-service trainings, and professional development activities to stay current with school nursing best practices.
- Serve as a liaison between the school, families, healthcare providers, and public health agencies to ensure coordinated care and support.
- Complete all required documentation and reports in a timely and accurate manner.
- Other Duties:
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support student health and the successful operation of the ESY program.
Educational Background
- Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) preferred
- Experience in pediatric or school nursing preferred
- CPR and First Aid certification

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including students, families, and school staff
- Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations governing school health services
$50 - $50 an hour
Salaries are determined by educational background and/or relevant years of experience.

Performance Evaluation
The employee will be evaluated based on the above position using either two methods: via COMPASS or a NOLA-PS evaluating instrument. If the employee holds an Educational Leadership certification, he/she will be evaluated via COMPASS to ensure renewal of certification.
