Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Superintendent of Schools, the Chief of Staff serves as a critical member of the Superintendent’s leadership team, supporting the alignment of district goals, streamlining decision-making, facilitating external coordination, and ensuring effective governance and policy execution. Acting as a key liaison between the Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent, the Executive Cabinet, and external stakeholders in the management of district initiatives.
The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, problem-solving abilities, an understanding of education policy and administration, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement skills, along with the ability to manage confidential matters, and drive initiatives that support the district’s goals.
Direct Reports
Governmental and Legislative Affairs, School Board Office, Communications, Media Relations, Community Engagement and other personnel as assigned.
Strategic Leadership and Planning
- Develop and implement procedures and strategies to ensure the efficient delivery of services.
- Participates with the Superintendent and other senior staff in strategic planning, policy development, and problem resolution of complex issues.
- Partners with senior executive leaders to set and implement strategic goals and provides operational support to ensure organizational effectiveness.
- Prepares and contributes to the preparation of reports, briefings, presentations and responses on strategic issues as appropriate.
District Administration & Operations
- Works with members of the Board of Education, elected officials, community representatives and business leaders to promote the interests of the school district.
- Develop recommendations to improve operational efficiency and advance the goals of the school district.
- Advocates for fairness and consistency in the administration of policies and procedures.
- Reviews and prioritizes inquiries, requests, and communications addressed to the Superintendent’s Office, ensuring timely and appropriate responses.
- Ensures compliance with Board policies and local, state, and federal regulations.
- Monitors progress of high-priority initiatives.
- Collaborates with the communications team to develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy aligned with district objectives.
- Address urgent issues, coordinate responses to challenges, and support district leadership in resolving complex operational concerns.

- Serves as a communications liaison between the Superintendent’s Office and external affairs.
- Represents the Superintendent at various meetings, conferences and functions as needed and required; andPerforms other duties as assigned.
Government Relations and Legislative Affairs
- Oversee Government Relations and Legislative Affairs, Policy and Procedures, Community Engagement, and the Board of Education.
- Serves as a liaison to local, state, and federal legislative bodies which impact the district; advises the Superintendent on policy and operational matters.
- Interprets local, state, and federal actions, informing executive leadership on the status of relevant issues and pending legislation.
Board Support
- Provides briefings and support materials for Board members as necessary to inform decision-making.
- Manages content and logistics for BoardDocs and support monthly School Board meeting preparation.
- Coordinates internal review of board agenda items with relevant department staff to ensure accuracy and alignment.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Serves as the liaison for the School’s Board Legislative platform and coordinate the activities of the district’s lobbyists.
- Facilitates community engagement initiatives.
- Designs and manages advisory councils for the superintendent’s office.
- Attends Board of Education meetings and other assigned meetings.
- Collaborates with Board of Education members, elected officials, community leaders, and business representatives to promote the interests of the school district.
- Represents the Superintendent at meetings, conferences, and public functions.
- Presides over meetings and engagements as directed by the Superintendent.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field strongly preferred. Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum of seven years of progressive experience in executive or organizational leadership roles.
Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required
- Proven ability to lead and coordinate multiple departments and cross-functional teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience preparing executive-level communications.
- Demonstrated success in leading strategic initiatives, problem solving, and driving results.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and foster collaborative relationships.
$135,000 - $167,300 a year
Salaries are determined by educational background and/or relevant years of experience.

Performance Evaluation
The employee will be evaluated based on the above position using either two methods: via COMPASS or a NOLA-PS evaluating instrument. If the employee holds an Educational Leadership certification, he/she will be evaluated via COMPASS to ensure renewal of certification.
