We are looking for a seasoned Mainframe IMS Engineer to join our dynamic infrastructure team. This position is ideal for professionals with extensive experience in IMS systems who are passionate about system performance, optimization, and integration. The role involves end-to-end responsibility for IMS architecture, configuration, maintenance, and performance tuning, while ensuring seamless interaction with other mainframe subsystems. Key Responsibilities

    • Install, upgrade, and maintain IMS and related supporting software products.
    • Customize software using usermods and manage IMS configurations and patches.
    • Plan and implement system upgrades, RSUs, and feature enhancements.
    • Configure CICS and manage subsystem connectivity (MQ, DB2, LU6.2, NJE).
    • Define and maintain IMS databases using DBDs, PSBs, and DL/I utilities.
    • Develop and support IMS applications in COBOL; write exits in Assembler and automation scripts in REXX.
    • Monitor and optimize IMS performance (buffer pools, threading, logging).
    • Troubleshoot transaction failures, database lock issues, and communication errors using trace and diagnostic tools.
    • Manage IMS region administration, control blocks, and system deployments via SMP/E or z/OSMF.
    • Implement and support IMS recovery strategies, log retention, and restart procedures.
    • Integrate IMS with CICS, DB2, MQ, and web services via IMS Connect or GATEWAY.
    • Document architecture, procedures, and operational standards; maintain runbooks and change control.
    • Collaborate closely with development, operations, and DBA teams to support business needs.
    • Stay updated on IMS technologies through continuous learning and external resources like IBM Redbooks.

Requirements

    • 15+ years of hands-on experience in mainframe environments with deep expertise in IMS (IMS/TM and IMS/DB).
    • Proficiency in COBOL, Assembler, and REXX programming within IMS environments.
    • Strong experience with IMS system and database administration, configuration, and optimization.
    • Solid knowledge of z/OS Sysplex environments and subsystem connectivity (CICS, MQ, DB2).
    • Demonstrated experience with SMP/E or z/OSMF for software deployment and maintenance.
    • Skilled in troubleshooting, diagnostics, and performance tuning of IMS systems.
    • Knowledge of IMS recovery processes and integration with DFSMShsm.
