The Nylas Cloud API makes it an order of magnitude easier for companies to add email, calendar, and contacts integrations to their applications. By being at the core of business communication, scheduling, and contacts, we believe we can shape the future of how people work.

We’re hiring platform engineers to help us build and maintain a solid foundation from which to scale and build new products on top of our APIs. Right now, our open-source Python sync engine regularly archives terabytes of data across a massive SQL cluster, and our Flask APIs handle tens of millions of requests a day. We aim to scale that several times over in the next year.

Platform engineers are more like the janitors, gardeners, or mechanics of the codebase than other engineers. They’re focused primarily on improving scalability and reliability and creating more usable interfaces within the code rather than building new features or hacking on customer bugs, and they work in production backend code but are unafraid to dive into the infrastructure side of the stack. The team is driven by metrics like system reliability, developer velocity, infrastructure utilization, and developer satisfaction. Platform engineers rework queuing infrastructure, create maintainable interfaces for deleting data, improve log implementation and tooling, and add metrics for debugging API errors. They also talk at conferences, write blog posts, and make strong showings at local events.

You should have a growth mindset, enough engineering experience to build complex systems, a track record of shipping projects, and a strong sense of practicality over engineering purity. You should also tend toward humbleness in your abilities and have an innate desire to pass knowledge onto others.
