Observable helps everyone make sense of the world with data.
We’re building a place where people can work together to explore, analyze, and communicate with data. Uncover new insights, answer more questions, and make better decisions - right in the browser. Start by forking a project from teammates or from the largest community of visualization experts and data practitioners (scientists, analysts, developers). Bring your data in from spreadsheets or database connectors. Use components or write custom code along any JavaScript library. Observable lets you work with your data however you want.
Observable is the collaborative data canvas, built for and powered by community.
The Observable Community is growing!
We are looking to add a User Success Engineer to our team to help our customers get the most value out of Observable, and help them increase adoption of Observable within their companies.
As a User Success Engineer, you will help us engage with our existing customers to make them enthusiastic advocates, contribute to platform changes to support them, and also work with prospective customers by demoing Observable and helping them understand how the platform could benefit them.
The type of work you'd do:
- Engage with people using Observable to understand, assist them with advice and guidance, and represent their needs within Observable.
- Run training sessions for users and their teams to help them become more effective and productive in Observable, faster.
- Engage with new and prospective people by demoing Observable and helping them understand the value of Observable for their workflows and use cases.
- Understand user pain points and gaps, and document the suggestions and gaps as feature requests for product enhancement.
- You will have the opportunity to "get your hands dirty" to support certain changes to the product and data in support of all of our users.
What we'd love to see you bring:
- 5+ years experience in user support, consulting, or quality assurance.
- 2+ years experience with a programming language such as JavaScript, React, Java, PHP, PostgreSQL etc.
- Excitement to engage with users and helping them be successful.
- Great communications and presentation skills.
- Ability to describe the platform to medium-sized groups through web conferencing in an interactive way.
- Ability to live-demo the platform (live coding) while screen-sharing with an audience.
- Strong debugging skills
- Experience working cross-functionally to communicate the nuts and bolts of a technical product.
Join our team!
We’re visualization enthusiasts. We’re chart connoisseurs. We’re open source developers. We’re map geeks, spreadsheet lovers, and color palette fiends. We love helping people understand the world better and we want you to join us in helping the world make sense of data.
We want to share our love of software by making programming easier to learn, by making data easier to explore and analyze, by making visualizations easier to sketch, and by helping people help each other.
Observable is built on open source, including React, Node.js, and PostgreSQL, as well as a number of our own open source libraries. We care deeply about user-centered design, from programming language and syntax design, to API construction, to the graphical user interface, to the final pass of visual polish.
We are looking for people who are compassionate advocates for developers and have the audacity to tackle some of development’s greatest challenges. We are hiring for multiple positions.
Thank you for your interest! 🙏 We can’t wait to hear from you.
