About Observe
At Observe, we didn’t set out to build just another observability company, we set out to build a data company. We wanted to challenge the costly traditional approaches of siloed data that leads to fragmented tooling and fragile dashboards. Instead, we solve data problems by bringing those data silos together, by creating relational business objects modeled from semi-structured logs. We are a company that enables IT professionals to investigate distributed applications 10x faster and less costly. Not only do we design for power-users, we strive to make our products usable for just about anyone — from business analysts to customer success. We’re a smart, dedicated, and innovative team who want to build a great product in a challenging space.

Design at Observe
As our first visual product designer, you play a key role in shaping observability and the next generation of SaaS software, including the visual direction of both the product and brand. Design plays a crucial part in Observe and has a seat at the table with both engineering and product. We work not only as designers, but tactical product managers - we're seen as problem solvers who can take vague requirements and turn them into tactile solutions. We lead important feature projects and shape the product to have the best user experience possible. We believe in constantly improving (ourselves, the team, and the product), learning new things, and taking the initiative.

We're looking for...
An experienced designer (3-5 years) - You have a design portfolio that showcases your ability to design software that is beautiful, powerful, and intuitive. You've designed complex software before, ideally enterprise software (within the observability or data analytics space, or focusing on growth features, is a huge plus, but not required).
Strong visual chops - You have a deep desire to make things look good! A great attention to detail, a love for making a pleasing experience, and you want to build great-looking, and working, products for people to enjoy using. Having a desire to move into more product-oriented work is also a huge plus.
Independent and product-minded - We're a very small and nimble team. We not only follow the roadmap, but take the initiative when we spot opportunities to improve the product. Not only are you able to take things on your own when needed, you also love to collaborate. Having an open mind to constructive criticism is your path to improving the product and your skillset - you’re not afraid to admit you made a mistake and try another solution.
Excited about solving complex problems - Observe is tackling a huge data problem. Scale and complexity are the name of the game. You should find the nature of this to be exciting and a great opportunity for strong design to have a hand in shaping these solutions. You have a desire to mesh the pleasurable qualities of consumer products with the utility and complexity of enterprise products.

What you'll be doing...

    • Actively contribute to and help drive the visual communication and brand identity needs of both the product/experience and the team (marketing and product)
    • Help shape the visual direction of both the product and marketing language (this includes the UI and design system itself, the website, and marketing/sales materials)
    • Lead the initial user experience, from the website and marketing, to signup and onboarding flows
    • Deliver high-quality, polished, delightful, and easy-to-use designs
    • Provide creative and innovative solutions to complex visual and interaction problems that are easy to comprehend and implement
    • Contribute in all phases of product development including hands-on crafting of experiences, designing and creating assets and visual elements that persist from the website to the product
    • Develop style guidelines, specs, patterns, or other deliverables to document the essential elements of a design solution for development or future use
    • Have the opportunity to grow from more visual-oriented projects into more product-focused projects
$134,000 - $166,000 a year
