We have an opportunity for an experienced and technically strong Finance Controller to join our Leadership Team.

In this role, you will lead our core finance functions and be responsible for developing and implementing robust financial processes, policies, controls, reporting and risk management procedures. Your primary area of responsibility will be our Financial Operations, Financial Management & Accounting, Planning & Analysis and Financial reporting (including funder reporting). You will work with our Credit team, Group finance team and also support our Strategic Finance team - from debt funding and hedging strategy, to shareholder reporting. 

You will report to Octopus Electric Vehicle’s Chief Financial Officer.

You’ll also be responsible for performance, planning and development of the core finance teams.

We operate in a new and growing industry. We are rapidly growing our book of business and the scale and sophistication of our funding and credit operations. This role will give you the opportunity to own, manage and build our core finance and control capabilities as we continue to scale.

What you'll do...

    • Own core finance in our scale-up leasing business 
    • Oversee all financial operations including statutory reporting, cash flow management, debtor management, financial performance, invoicing, asset purchasing, contract amendments and data input, and recording in our systems
    • Be the internal expert on accounting treatments and policies (e.g. relating to vehicles leases; funding / securitisation structures; hedging)
    • Own and coordinate internal controls & procedures 
    • Provide timely and relevant financial MI to the Senior Leadership team to inform business strategy and commercial decision-making
    • Work with data, systems and reporting teams to improve our core processes and data flows - creating scalable, robust and efficient processes
    • Drive a balance between commercial flexibility (supporting our sales teams) and robust, policy-driven financial and risk management 
    • Create the financial processes and policies for new geographical markets as we enter them
    • Plan, hire and manage the team; lead on their performance and output 
    • Be the voice for core finance on our Leadership Team
    • Encourage a culture of collaboration

What you'll need...

    • Excellent experience with Finance - ideally in a regulated lending / leasing environment 
    • Ideally also experience with asset-backed lending and hedging
    • Accounting qualification with a good understanding of financial leases
    • An aptitude for the technical aspects of accounting and finance
    • A passion for, and experience of, using technology to drive automation and efficiency in a finance function
    • Be able to plan and scale teams
    • Be a good communicator, collaborator and team leader
    • Be a problem solver that can take others with you in your decision making
    • To enjoy and thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing work environment
    • Experience with FCA guidelines and requirements
