Our London-based marketing team needs a sharp communicator to help make energy fun and simple. Someone who can cut through the complex, ditch formalities, and write for humans: without trying to be a novelist. Someone who chooses clarity over ‘flowery’ and can hit the sweet spot between serious, silly, and sincere. Someone who reacts fast, writes at speed, and makes the words pull their weight.

This is more than just writing. You’ll take the initiative, chat with customers and energy specialists, and use what you learn to make our comms even better. We like generalists who work with freedom and responsibility. You’ll manage your own workload without prescriptive briefs or account managers, and you’ll happily jump on any projects that come your way. If that sounds like you, we want to hear from you.

What you'll do:

    • Develop, update and sharpen customer comms (of all types, from email to website help guide to app UX) so they really hit the mark
    • Review, edit and proofread content, making sure claims are always spot on
    • Speak to energy specialists, gather insights and fine tune comms based on learnings
    • Turn ‘boring’ or complex messages into clear, engaging, easy-to-understand content
    • Add little nuggets of of serotonin into our customer experience to brighten people’s days and make them lifelong Octopus lovers
    • Use any SEO or Google Analytics know-how to boost reach and measure the impact of your work
    • Dive into HTML code and make quick changes to improve comms on the fly

What you'll need:

    • Previous experience as a writer or copywriter – or just a natural talent with words. (We care more about skill and passion for the mission than about where you are in your career.)
    • A knack for making the complex simple, and improving communications
    • Strong instinct for tone: knowing when to dial it up or down.
    • Experience writing in a distinct brand voice is a plus, but not essential.
    • A creative mindset and genuine enthusiasm for new ideas.
    • Openness to feedback, with a drive to learn and grow in the role.
    • The ability to understand people (what makes them tick), paired with strong storytelling and problem-solving skills.
    • Awareness of SEO best practices and how to measure comms success – helpful, but not a dealbreaker.
