Help us make the energy system fairer. We're on a mission to make energy more transparent, sustainable and innovative. We understand the importance of leveraging data to drive commercial value and ensure fairness in the energy system. Do you love analysing and getting commercial value from data? Can you recognise how energy data in industry settlement can seemingly differ to the same data in internal systems? Do you know your DTC data from your UK Link data?If you’re a “yes” to some of those questions then you’ll love this role……

Octopus Energy is now one of the largest suppliers of gas and electricity to UK householders, with 6.5 million customers and a multi-billion pound turnover. As part of the gross profit margin section of the retail business, our Margin Assurance team delivers value to the business by closing the margin gap created by inflated settlement costs and missed revenue opportunities.

What you'll do

    • You’ll do this using incredibly granular data and superb tooling, playing an important role here in our supportive team of data analysts and data engineers.

    • Analyse and interpret data to identify gap opportunities that improve commercial performance
    • Develop bespoke analysis to support product development with our Data Engineers
    • Collaborate with Industry & Billing teams to create solutions that close the gap
    • Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and visualisations that enable operations to quickly understand complex information and make informed decisions
    • Provide ad-hoc analysis and support as required.

    • The more of the below skills you have, the higher the probability that you’ll be a good fit for this role. Our perfect person would meet a minimum standard in all of these areas… but we place an equally high value on an ability to pick up new skills and knowledge … and nobody (least of all us) is perfect!

What you'll have

    • Strong analytical skills, commercial interest, and the ability to distinguish between what matters and what doesn’t
    • Have at least 2 years experience in related roles.
    • Experience in the retail energy with industry settlement knowledge, a benefit.
    • Proficiency to code with SQL (Databricks / Spark) / Python / dbt
    • Enjoy developing use cases & solving complex problems through constantly iterating
    • Curious about new and complex areas & excited by a fast-paced, dynamic environment
    • An interest in storytelling with data, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.

Why else you'll love it here

    • Wondering what the salary for this role is? Just ask us! On a call with one of our recruiters it's something we always cover as we genuinely want to match your experience with the correct salary. The reason why we don't advertise is because we honestly have a degree of flexibility and would never want salary to be a reason why someone doesn't apply to Octopus - what's more important to us is finding the right octofit!
