We’re looking for someone to lead all of our people and green skills teams for the Octopus Energy Services business in the UK, but there are probably some things you should know…

We don’t have a traditional people team - we really don’t, not for people, L&D, or even operations. We’ve a fabulous team of in-house onboarding people, who are passionate about training, recruitment and people systems. We do our own training and development and recruitment in house. 

We’re pretty obsessive.  We think about our customers a lot.  A lot a lot.  We answer emails from customers, we join in on social media (and I mean we, as leaders do), we think constantly about what makes great experiences, great stories and great reasons for people to join us. 

We’re looking for someone who’s worked their way round the people, you’re good at metrics, but actually, what you’re really fascinated about is why people make the choices they do. 

You’ve led a team, and we don’t mean just managing FTEs - you’ll happily work with no direct reports, because your enthusiasm means awesome people will follow you, and you’ll get stuff done. You’ll have direct reports but you won’t measure your worth in how many, in fact the opposite. 

And finally. We have to be honest, we find that people from traditional businesses often struggle here. We don’t work with traditional processes and we move super quickly. We expect accountability without too many processes, and responsibility without functional shoulder pads. We get stuff done by knowing what’s right, and sometimes that’s hard.

The greatest asset to our business is the incredible talent that delivers our products. We have enormous ambitions - to install low-carbon tech in tens of thousands of homes across the UK every year. Key to achieving this is ensuring that we have highly trained teams to deliver - now and into the future. We’re scaling at a rapid rate, and at the core of this will be understanding and leveraging the talent market as well as nurturing and upskilling our in-house talent.
 

What you'll do...

    • Setting our long term talent attraction and skills strategy 
    • Owning market analysis to understand the availability of labour to build a sustainable pipeline of skilled and unskilled talent to meet our long term growth objectives
    • Building the physical infrastructure to deliver a nationwide skills academy that meets the needs of the business 
    • Create and drive the vision to position Octopus as a leading skills provider in the UK and create brilliant skills opportunities for people across a diverse range of backgrounds
    • Managing a multi functional team to deliver an efficient talent attraction strategy and be highly effective in recruitment and onboarding operations
    • Working alongside Regional Operations Teams to match our talent supply plans to local customer demand needs 
    • Working cross functionally with our teams across the Octopus Energy Group 

What you'll need...

    • Experience in running large, multi functional teams - familiarity with field-based / remote organisations is a bonus!
    • Experience working in a hyper-growth, tech-enabled environment - with experience working closely with tech and product 
    • Experience managing teams in the development and delivery of successful large scale campaigns 
    • Experience in managing large real estate projects (sourcing and operationalising large sites)
    • Experience in the development and delivery of multi functional operations teams
    • A track record of working within complex regulatory environments and developing scalable processes which adhere to compliance standards
    • A passion to drive the greatest impact on our business
    • Comfort with getting up to speed on technical issues and complex products. This role will manage a large group of technical specialists - without necessarily having that background yourself
