You are someone with a passion for leveraging business as a force for good and are a creative communicator who is passionate about a food system that works well for everyone. You have exposure to and/or experience with farmworkers or farm-working communities, and you have a nuanced understanding of the challenges farm-working communities face. You are an independent, self-starter who takes initiative but also doesn’t hesitate to ask for help when needed. ​ 
 
The Task At Hand: 
A better story starts here… At Once Upon A Farm, we’ve been delivering a better story through the creation of nutritious snacks and our downstream efforts to increase access to these products. We are also actively working on developing a better story upstream through the ingredients that we source and the people who grow them. As the Social Impact and Communications Intern, this role will report directly to the Sustainability Manager while also working cross-functionally with members of the marketing and sustainability teams. This position will develop internal and external communications highlighting projects and topics related to farm labor and the impact work OFarm is developing in our supply chain; this will include visiting some of the farms we partner with.

In This Role, You Will: 
•   Act As A Liaison Between O'Farm and the Farmers/Farmworkers Who Grow Our Ingredients 
o Travel to orchards/farms and interact with our supplier partners 
o Bridge the gap between farmworkers and consumers by sharing educational content and updates 
 
•   Conduct Research On Key Topics Related to Farmworkers 
o Create fact sheets to support our internal team's education and talking points on topics such as legislation, farmworker demographics, and more 
o Track news and storylines, and identify trends in how media portrays relevant issues (farmworkers, produce, organic) 
 
•   Create Communication Materials 
o Develop dynamic written and visual materials that communicate the essential role food and farm workers play in the food system, celebrate the positive impact O'Farm is driving, and tell farmworkers’ stories 
o Support external communications via the creation of blogs, social post videos, and photos 
o Support internal communications via education and updates on Slack  
o Create and support content development on other sustainability-related topics like Organic agriculture 
 
•   Sustainability Team Support 
o This role may be asked to contribute to other projects that support the Sustainability team's larger goals 
o At the end of the internship, you’ll be asked to share a 5-10 minute presentation on one thing you worked on during your internship here, what you learned, and how you hope to apply any learnings from your time here toward your future career
 
In This Role, You’ll Bring With You: 
•   Currently enrolled in undergraduate, graduate, or trade school studying Communications, Marketing, Sustainability, Environmental Studies, Agriculture, Sociology or other relevant topics 
•   No BA? No problem. Equivalent years of experience in the field(s) of agriculture, communications, produce supply chains, social impact, environmental or related focus will also meet this qualification 
•   Located in Central or Eastern Washington State required 
•   Bilingual in Spanish and English required 
•   Prior exposure to and or experience with farmworkers and/or farm working communities required 
•   Proficiency with independent research, writing, and editing skills required 
•   Knowledge of social media and ability to speak to different audiences through different platforms required 
•   Comfortable and able to visit farms and orchards and talk with farmworkers across the state of WA 
•   Organized and professional when coordinating with different stakeholders 
•   Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license required: This role will visit local farm partners across the state up to 5 days each quarter, each commute might exceed multiple hours. 
•   Genuinely passionate about improving childhood nutrition for a healthier and happier planet 
•   Ability to stand and walk for up to 4 hours at a time and able to lift 25lbs 
•   Desire to contribute to a dynamic high-growth, purpose-driven work environment 
•   Must reside in the United States to be considered for this position

Compensation:  
•   Non-Exempt, Hourly, Part-Time internship 
•   Weekly hours will vary with a minimum of 10 hours per week, sometimes up to 29 hours per week 
•   $22.00 per hour 
•   Estimated Duration:  July 2024 – January 2025
