Job Summary:

As a Director of Infrastructure Engineering, you will collaborate with leadership to create the vision and own the roadmap delivery of infrastructure services and capabilities. In this hands-on technical leadership role, you will develop managed infrastructure and cloud platform services in AWS for compute (EKS, ECS, Lambda), advanced networking, and other cloud infrastructure services upon which our products operate.  This includes providing key services to other cloud vendors while new acquisitions refactor their solutions for migration into the AWS environment.   You will architect and lead your team in building this using IaC and automation via a series of roadmap deliverables; and in providing operational management for centralized platform services. Your technical skills and direct engagement will set the bar for members of your team, as you mentor, coach, and engage with team members in the design and crafting of well designed infrastructure solutions and services.

Responsibilities:

    • Provide leadership and guidance for OpenGov’s evolving cloud-based infrastructure. Lead a team of engineers to build and deliver modern infrastructure solutions that are resilient, reliable, performant, and scale to meet the needs of our growing customer base.
    • Define the architecture, requirements, designs, and tooling in the delivery of fully managed compute, network and cloud services upon which teams deploy and operate their services, in providing a cloud SaaS based ERP solution for state and local government entities.
    • Collaborate with architecture and security leadership, define the account management and network composition for operations in the cloud and create the strategies and tools to automate the setup, maintenance and expansion of managed services in the cloud provided to our engineering teams.
    • Develop backend services that integrate with cloud management and automation tools that enable the secure management of cloud operations.
    • Develop and grow a team of exceptional engineers that build cloud native solutions and services that are best in class, in delivering a fully managed cloud platform for the organization to use. Security, reliability, scalability, and observability, with multi-region disaster recovery must be architected and built into the services.
    • Own and deliver on all things that enhance engineering productivity, including documentation, integrations, automation, applications, infrastructure.
    • Build domain experts, technologies and enthusiasts, providing hands-on mentoring and development of staff through direct engagement in the architecture, design and implementation of solutions.
    • Build strong cross-functional relationships across OpenGov to refine and evolve the team’s strategy, roadmap, and priorities
    • Provide 24/7 support for always on and available infrastructure services.
    • Take a data/metric-driven approach to identify gaps in processes, frameworks, etc. and provide tactical solutions.

Requirements and Preferred Experience:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or a related discipline is preferred.
    • 10+ years of experience in software architecture, design and development, and in building managed infrastructure services upon which teams operate their services.
    • Solid understanding of GitHub, Terraform, Docker, and Kubernetes (EKS), AWS technologies, and major products available on the market and their features and value statements.
    • Define the architecture and design for the managed infrastructure service. The scope includes API gateways, ingress/egress edge services, database services, managed containers, infrastructure as code patterns and automation and an expanding roadmap of services and technologies.
    • Establish vision, strategies, and roadmaps which are socialized and adopted into the strategic and tactical plans.
    • Lead through hands-on engagement as the lead engineer on the team, mentoring and empowering members of the team to become technical experts and owners for their areas of expertise.
    •  Expertise in the use of Python and related languages and technologies used to build and automate cloud infrastructure services in the cloud.
    • Familiarity with NodeJS and React in the development and delivery of web tools for infrastructure management.
    • Familiarity with Java, Ruby, NodeJS, .Net, React and/or other programming languages, design patterns, and frameworks is needed, since you will be delivering tools and pipelines that support the developers building products with these technologies.
    • Highly analytical mindset, with an ability to see both the big picture and the details
    • Experience in leading a geographically dispersed team by setting clear expectations and measurable deliverables, to ultimately meet organizational and team commitments.
    • Ability to think long term, envision target states, and work towards achieving the target state iteratively
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
$190,000 - $250,000 a year
