Job Summary:
As an experienced architect with domain knowledge in building scaled, distributed-architecture applications, as well as foundational service and front-end frameworks that accelerate application development, this position will lead the OpenGov architecture decision-making process for one of its application suites. This position will require an incumbent who is operationally strong and has a proven track record of technical innovation, product delivery, and organizational development. This role will require experience driving a technical vision with organizations in a fast-changing, complex environment. A successful incumbent will be passionate and experienced at architecture, design, engineering, and inspiring high-performing teams.

Collaborate and communicate with distributed teams to design, develop, and champion best practices, patterns, and standards for our multi-tenant, SaaS B&P application
• Continuously evolve the scale, security, and reliability of the application suite to position ourselves as the best in class software that delights customers
• Produce clear, detailed, and actionable design documents, architecture blueprints, and decision records with context, decision and tradeoffs that define and enable action upon strategic initiatives
• Inspire a high-performance, globally distributed, application engineering organization
• Work with product management, design teams, customers, application teams, and other key stakeholders to determine requirements and design capabilities that deliver great customer value and an exceptional customer experience
• Work with a distributed team of strong engineers to align around a vision, and challenging product requirements
• Build proofs-of-concept; our architects are hands-on and build real prototypes & frameworks to help the teams get started on the right foot
• Provide technical leadership across broad technology areas including transactional systems, data management, reporting, and analytics
• Champion and evangelize the B&P Suite and more generally, OpenGov’s architecture
• Drive architectural decision making, applying best practices and processes
• Uplevel our engineering culture so every team member deeply cares about team building high quality software with strong architectural underpinnings that delight our customers
• Mentor and develop engineers, junior architects, and managers of all levels in architectural best practices and clean code discipline
• Contribute to the R&D culture of customer-driven innovation

Requirements and Preferred Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or a related discipline required; Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field is a plus
• 10-15 years of experience in software design, development, and leadership, preferably with cloud-native technology stack and multi-tenant enterprise SaaS architectures
• Experience with both bringing products to market, and with optimizing deployments, especially in shortening deployment cycles with customers, and solving in-life customer challenges
• Ability to think long term, envision target states, and work towards achieving the target state iteratively. You have the ability to formulate and articulate architecture succinctly to senior leadership and translate that into an action for an engineering team
• Proven experience in working with product management to understand and clarify requirements to ultimately create pragmatic solutions to advance the product in the market
• Well versed in building and shipping software that has high quality, performance, scalability, reliability, and security
• Solid understanding of Object-Oriented and Functional programming, microservices, APIs, reactive, evolutionary and event-driven architectures
• Solid understanding of Ruby on Rails, Node, Java, GraphQL, Postgres, and Kafka
• Proven hands-on development experience with Java and NodeJS programming languages, design patterns, and frameworks
• Hands-on knowledge of DevOps, SRE, TDD, and CI/CD practices in a public cloud environment, preferably AWSHighly analytical mindset, with an ability to see both the big picture and the details
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
• Proven experience working cross-team and cross-geographies to help deliver real solutions under time and budget
