Are you looking for a role in a company that's solving one of the greatest challenges of our lifetime? Ophelia helps people end their opioid use and restore their quality of life with respect for their time and dignity. Our mission is to make evidence-based treatments for opioid use disorder (OUD) accessible to everyone... and we're looking to bring more people onto our team to help us achieve it.

Ophelia is a venture-backed, healthcare startup that helps individuals with OUD by providing FDA-approved medication and clinical care through a telehealth platform. Our approach is discreet, convenient, and affordable. We've been successfully operating in 14 states for almost four years and we're excited to continue our growth. We are a team of doctors, scientists, startup veterans, and White House advisors, backed by leading technology and healthcare investors working to re-imagine and re-build OUD treatment in America.

About the Role

As Director of Product Design, you will inspire our entire organization to create people-centered products that prove telehealth to be the best way to treat opioid use disorder! You will be responsible for defining and leading the implementation of Ophelia’s product design strategy. That includes managing our Product Design team, collaborating across engineering, product management, and data and working with business stakeholders to hear needs and prioritize work, ensuring a beautiful, usable, and thoughtfully prioritized feature set, a scalable development process, and ultimately a great set of digital products that will transform healthcare and save lives.

Product Design today is one full-time, Senior Product Designer plus great collaboration across software engineering. We use an agile approach rooted in the principles of the Agile Manifesto. We have a robust design system, including components built on top of the Mantine framework, which are well integrated and supported across our team and products. We have a custom built EMR platform for our clinical organization and a patient portal. We also consider the numerous other interaction modes (including text messaging, video conferencing, and third party software) in our complete product system.

Our product design tools today primarily include the Ophelia design system, Figma, Whimsical, and FullStory. In this role you will be both a leader and a hands-on contributor, in our growing organization. You will be a peer leader to the heads of Data, Product Management, and Software Engineering. Product Design is already ingrained in our corporate culture: you’ll witness our team already thinking with user experience in mind and leveraging the principles of our product design team. And we constantly seek improvement!

In this fully remote role, you will report to our Chief Technology Officer and be a peer to our Directors of Product Management, Engineering, and Data. You will work with the leadership of all teams at the company to push forward Ophelia’s product design experience to foster a culture of people-centric design to provide better patient care. You will be accountable for setting and ensuring both the expectations for product design quality and experience, along with related analytics data, and setting the long-term vision for our digital products. You will be responsible for reporting on the related metrics and working with all department leaders. Because the team is small today, you will likely need to be quite hands-on in the early days and evolve towards more focused management in the future.

Together, we’ll help hard-to-reach people treat their opioid dependence. You may not have experience in this treatment area, but ideally you’ll have knowledge of the healthcare space, including understanding health outcomes and benchmarks, systems, and regulatory compliance (HIPAA).

Ophelia's Compensation Philosophy: We set compensation based on the level and skills required for the role. We value pay transparency and equity, and are committed to fair pay. In order to prevent pay disparities and reduce time spent in negotiations, we take a “first and best” offer approach: this means we’re not holding any compensation back from our candidates, and you can feel confident that our pay is fair and does not vary based on the strength of someone’s negotiation skills.

Compensation is dynamic at Ophelia: as long as the company performs well and meets our targets, there will be opportunities for increased compensation annually. We’re happy to discuss this approach and our bands if you have questions during the interview process.
