At OSARO we develop solutions to endow industrial robots with the level of autonomy needed to perform an unprecedented variety of complex pick and place tasks leveraging sophisticated robot control and neural network-based perception algorithms.  You are a good fit if you are passionate about what you build, you feel a strong sense of ownership, and you love dynamic challenges. You care deeply about your team, you’re direct and you believe in doing what you say.

As a Solutions Support Engineer you will work on conceiving, defending and supporting the systems that are core to our industrial robotic solutions.

You will work with the team on the following activities:

Concept-making engineering support

- By using 2D and 3D CAD, building a concept design of robotic systems that Sales and Solutions team wants to start selling.
- Verifying the concept by using the simulation software
- Procuring the hardware by building the Bill of Materials for the concept design.
- Commission the devices for the concept and generate the documentation when needed
- Setup the robot picking environment and test the devices by running the hardware test
- Write the software to connect OSARO’s API and other surrounding devices
- Test the concept system

Data collection and feasibility study support

- Operate a robot to record data (both manually and programmatically) from a variety of sensors, potentially including simulations
- Collect test requirements from Sales and Solutions team; use them to prepare a test plan
- Run experiments and test software on robotic hardware
- Track performance metrics for various machine learning models
- Report errors and brainstorm solutions with the AI and robotic control teams

Sales support

- Run the sales demo and contribute by troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems to make sure equipment - is operational
- Manage on-site preventative maintenance, repair, test, and diagnostic tasks in OSARO SF office
- Record the videos of the picking test
- Write up the feasibility study report for customers

Experience and skills you’ll need:

    • Patience and diligence to solve problems
    • Flexibility to adapt rapidly changing priorities and environments
    • Hands-on experience working in a Linux/macOS command line environment
    • Good communication and organizational skills
    • 2 + years hands-on work experience in mechanical, electrical or software systems
    • Ability to synthesize details in a written research report

Bonus if you have:

    • Python or Rust programming experience
    • Experience working with robots, robotic sensors including 3D cameras and grippers
    • Fluency in Korean or Japanese

Actual compensation is based on various factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, and experience.
OSARO is a San Francisco-based startup company applying deep learning technology to next-generation robotics applications. Some of Silicon Valley’s leading investors, including Peter Thiel, Jerry Yang, and Scott Banister have backed OSARO. Our vision is to build brains for robots on an industrial scale and we are excited and driven to see the results of our efforts operating in and interacting with the real world. We implement state-of-the-art techniques but constantly strive to build the simplest possible solution. OSARO is technique agnostic and always focused on the goal. We regularly review academic literature and techniques while steering clear of the hype. We’re focused on delighting our customers with systems that work like magic.

We have a highly international team made up of expert machine learning practitioners and dedicated software and hardware engineers which match well with the global nature of our business. We are naturally curious, love healthy debate, and respect varying points of view. At OSARO, we strive to be champions for equality. We believe we can serve as a model for diversity in the tech industry by emphasizing policies of nondiscrimination and inclusion at every step.
