An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the SSE Pacifico K.K. (“SSEP”) Finance Team, based in Tokyo.
Reporting to the SSEP Head of Finance, you will have overall responsibility for all accounting and financial reporting processes for SSEP and its development project companies.
You will also support the wider SSEP finance team on financial matters, including accounting and tax, in the context of M&A activities and bids.
Your responsibilities will include:
·        Working with the Finance business partner in the preparation of forecasts, including the annual budget, re-forecasts, and the 5-year strategic plan
·        Reviewing journals, trial balances, and reconciliations, to ensure that accounts are accurate
·        Overseeing financial reporting, including month-end reports on development expenditure, value-at-risk tracking, and financial and management accounts
·        Coordinating funding forecasts and executing cash drawdowns from shareholders
·        Supporting local requirements as required, such as the filing of statutory financial accounts, tax returns, or statutory audits
·        Other financial activities, as required
The role will involve instructing and supervising the outputs of an outsourced team of accountants (service provided by a Big 4 firm). In time, you may lead the in-housing of the accounting and tax functions, should this decision be made by the business.
It will also involve working closely with internal teams, such as Bidding, Development and Procurement.
The candidate will also work closely with SSE Renewables’ Finance teams, which will include the following responsibilities:
·        Ensuring accurate and timely reporting of SSEP financial and tax information
·        Overseeing compliance with the SSE Group financial control policies
·        Supporting SSER’s tax team, who are responsible for compliance with local taxes
·        Supporting, as required, other SSER financial processes
 
Skills and experience
We are looking for someone with experience and skills in the following areas:
·        Native Japanese speaker and business-level English
·        Qualified accountant in Japan, with strong technical accounting and analytical skills, including Japanese GAAP and IFRS
·        Relevant accounting experience, including with accounting procedures and financial systems
·        Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, in particular Excel
·        Energy or infrastructure background is a bonus, but not required
In addition to the above, you will be a good communicator, professional and diligent, with the ability to work to tight deadlines and under pressure, without compromising on the quality of your work. You will be flexible, know how to manage expectations, and be able to adapt to changing business needs.
