The Opportunity
We are looking for a motivated individual with great communication skills to join and support the team as 2IC. Your day-to-day activities will involve bringing the cows in for milking, doing the milking, shifting both the cows and the young stock, etc.
You will support the Farm Manager in the day-to-day planning, coaching staff and running of the farm including include taking on responsibility for feed allocation, animal health, budgeting, and animal records. You will work as part of a 5:2 roster system.
This role will also provide you with the chance to be the go-to support for the Farm Manager, which will involve stepping in to manage the operations when the Manager is on rostered time off.
Please note: We are flexible on start date for the right candidate, can be immediate or end of season.
The Farm
Landsdown Dairy is approximately 262 ha effective and utilises a composting barn. Located 14 minutes south of Balclutha, we milk 650 cows using a 50-bail rotary with ACRs and Milk Hub technology. Recreational activities are abound, both inside and outside the farm boundary.
About You
You will demonstrate strong people management skills, enthusiasm, and strong communication. As 2IC, this will involve taking a degree of responsibility for feed allocation and budgeting, and animal health/record keeping.
You will bring:
• Minimum 3 years dairy farming experience.
• Self-motivation, initiative and a passion for dairy farming.
• First class attitude to Health and Safety and Animal Welfare.
• Sound knowledge and experience in grazing and pasture management.
• Current NZ driver’s licence.
