The Opportunity
Be part of the new future of farming with Pāmu’s January 2025 Apprenticeship Scheme. Experience both dairy and livestock, get qualified and be guaranteed full-time employment in farming.
Over the two-year programme, as a Pāmu employee you will earn while working, living and learning on dairy and livestock farms across the Central North Island. Your main base (home) will be just out of Taupō.
You will be supported to work towards your Level 3 and 4 NZ Certificates in Agriculture and receive mentorship from our experienced farmers and industry specialists. You will get additional support from a dedicated Apprenticeship Scheme Manager to help you balance learning, work, and life.
About You
We are one team, bringing many backgrounds, ideas, and experiences together. With nine apprentices joining the programme, we are looking for a diverse group who can work, live and learn together.
You may have:
- come from a farming background, or not
- grown-up in a rural setting, or not
- just started your career, or be looking to change
- finished secondary school, or not
- always been interested in farming, and keen to give it a go
Either way, your motivation is what matters to us, and we want to hear from you.
You must be:
- age 16 years or above
- able to live near Taupō in the Pāmu housing provided
- self-motivated and a team player
- willing to embrace new ideas, skills and technologies
- adaptable to different environments – outdoors/all weather
- committed to learning and championing health and safety practices

One or two written references from a member of your community who can tell us about your character, work ethic, and suitability for this Scheme. This can be someone such as a local leader, employer, teacher, Pāmu employee or another relevant person. The reference should be signed and dated and include contact details.

We are interested in hearing about any volunteering, work experience, church commitments or other involvement with communities, as well as about your education. Part of this application includes questions that help us get to know you. So please prepare for that.
To be eligible for this role, you must have unrestricted legal rights to work in New Zealand. We are unable to accept applicants on temporary work visas for permanent opportunities.
Pāmu provides a safe workplace and the successful applicant will be required to pass a drug and alcohol test and undergo a criminal background check prior to being appointed.
